San Antonio – Renowned local theatre group, 100A Productions, is eagerly set to launch its 2024-25 season with ‘The Lifespan of a Fact’, a compelling play that offers comedic exploration of modern media, truth, and work relationships.
The play, which is The Lifespan of a Fact, is based on the 2012 book by the same name. The story unfurls the saga of a multi-year dispute between a battle-hardened writer, John D’Agata, played by Andy Thornton, and an up-and-coming fact-checker, Jim Fingal, enacted by Michael Roberts.
John D’Agata designs an emotionally-charged essay about a teenager’s suicide and envisions it as the lifeline to save a sinking New York magazine. However, the article is mercilessly shredded to pieces by Jim’s red pen, highlighting numerous factual inaccuracies. As a result, John’s publishing contract is abruptly terminated by the magazine.
Noted for its witty dialogue, The Lifespan of a Fact confronts topical journalistic concerns like editorial ethics, truth’s subjectivity, and other broader themes such as empathy necessity in today’s polarized society. The play recommended for adult audiences due to mature themes and occasional strong language.
The play is scheduled to run from Wednesday, Sept. 4, to Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. With tickets ranging from $26.25 to $35, shows will start at 8 p.m from Wednesday to Friday and have two slots, 8 p.m and 2 p.m during Saturdays and Sundays.
The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts is in the center of the city, situated on 100 Auditorium Circle. With an aim to provide an inclusive and engaging arts experience for all, the center stands as a beacon for art lovers seeking enriching performances that challenge, stimulate, and entertain.
Since 1986, 100A productions have flourished as an independent voice of San Antonio’s art scene.
