During the recent phase of Operation North Star, 724 fugitives have been apprehended in San Antonio, Texas by the U.S. Marshals. This massive multi-city operation resulted in the arrest of a total of 3,421 fugitives across the United States, with law enforcement units focusing their efforts on apprehending individuals who had used firearms or violence in their criminal activities.
In collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, the Marshals were successful in dismantling criminal activities in San Antonio, confiscating over 100 firearms, more than $32,000 in cash, and in excess of 141 kilos of illegal narcotics. Nationally, the Operation resulted in the recovery of more than $500,000 and over 456 kilos of illegal narcotics, including fentanyl.
Though San Antonio led in the number of arrests, officials have clarified this does not imply a higher crime rate in the city. “The remarkable number of arrests is an outcome of the meticulous planning, extensive collaborations, and the combined efforts and man-hours invested to create a significant impact,” stated John Allen, Chief of the Western Texas division of U.S. Marshalls.
Besides San Antonio, the operation was conducted in nine other cities: Dallas, Texas; North Charleston, South Carolina; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Little Rock, Arkansas; Phoenix, Arizona; St. Louis, Missouri (including East St. Louis, Illinois); Birmingham, Alabama; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Dayton, Ohio.
Operation North Star is a targeted law enforcement initiative designed to apprehend fugitives involved in violent crimes across America. The U.S. Marshals Service has worked in collaboration with local law enforcement units across various cities, leading to several successful operations since its inception.
Through Operation North Star, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies have been able to share resources, intelligence and expertise, resulting in the successful apprehension of thousands of high-profile criminals. These operations not only bring criminals to justice but also work toward making communities safer, and restoring peace and stability in the areas affected by these individuals.
