San Antonio Prepares for Exciting Winter Trout Stocking Program Starting November 27

San Antonio Gears Up for a Rainbow Trout Bonanza!

Hey there, San Antonio! Are you ready to grab your fishing poles and head outdoors? The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has some exciting news for you. Starting on Wednesday, November 27, they’re kicking off their winter trout stocking program, and it’s sure to bring a splash of fun to your local parks!

What’s Happening?

From November 27 all the way through March 9, TPWD plans to release a whopping 342,372 rainbow trout into ponds, lakes, and rivers across Texas! This initiative aims to inspire families to get out and enjoy the great outdoors while learning about fishing—a fantastic winter tradition!

Where to Find the Fish

For those of you wondering where to cast your lines, several locations in Bexar County will also be stocked with these colorful critters. Although specific dates and locations could change, you can expect most of the trout deliveries to take place between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.. So, keep your eyes peeled and your fishing gear ready!

Fishing Licenses: What You Need to Know

Now, here’s a little nugget of information for you: if you plan to fish at Texas state parks, you don’t need a license. That’s right! Just bring your enthusiasm and a few snacks. However, if you’re hitting up the City of San Antonio parks or other local waterways, you will need a fishing license. Remember, if you’re under 17 years old, you can fish without a license—what a great opportunity to introduce kids to the sport!

Catch and Release Regulations

Before you set out for your fishing adventure, keep in mind that rainbow trout are pretty much winter guests in Texas. They typically don’t survive beyond the colder months, so keep an eye on your daily catch limit: it’s five trout per person and there isn’t a maximum length for your catch! Just remember, if you’re fishing in the special trout management zones on the Guadalupe River downstream of Canyon Lake, conditions can be a bit different since it’s cool enough there for rainbow trout to hang around all year long.

Get Ready for Fun!

This is a fantastic opportunity to make lasting memories with family and friends. Picture this: crisp winter air, laughter, and maybe even some friendly competition as you see who can catch the most trout! TPWD encourages everyone to get outdoors and enjoy what nature has to offer. Just make sure to check their website for the complete rules and the full stocking schedule.

Join the Fun!

Mark your calendars and dust off those fishing rods, San Antonio! Winter is on its way, and with it comes the chance for some colorful fishing fun. So, take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to get fishing and create unforgettable family moments in the beautiful Texas landscapes.
