Chilly Showers Expected for South Texas

Forecast for chilly weather and rain in South Texas

News Summary

Residents of San Antonio and neighboring areas should prepare for scattered showers and chilly temperatures on Wednesday. Rainfall is expected to be minimal in the metro area, but coastal cities may experience heavier precipitation. The rain will ease by midday, but temperatures will remain low, dropping even further over the weekend with the arrival of an arctic front. As Martin Luther King Jr. Day approaches, expect icy conditions and the potential for wintry weather next week. Stay prepared for changing weather in South Texas!

Chilly Showers on the Way for South Texas!

Residents of San Antonio and surrounding areas are in for a bit of a surprise this Wednesday morning as scattered showers are expected to make an appearance. These showers are a result of a weak disturbance hanging out in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, which will be sending a little moisture our way. So, if you’re planning to step outside, you might want to grab an umbrella!

Rainfall Totals: What to Expect

Don’t panic just yet, though! The rainfall totals in the San Antonio metro area are predicted to stay pretty low, likely less than a tenth of an inch. However, if you’re closer to the Texas Gulf Coast, the situation looks a bit wetter. Cities like Galveston, Victoria, and Corpus Christi could see up to a quarter-inch of rain, while those down in Brownsville may even get lucky with half an inch!

Timing of the Showers

If you’re an early bird, you’ll want to pay extra attention from 3 to 8 a.m., as that window holds the highest chances for rain in San Antonio. But here’s the silver lining: most of the morning is expected to stay dry, with just a few sporadic light showers. So, if you can dodge the drizzle, your morning might not be so dreary after all.

Chilly Temperatures Ahead

Now let’s talk about the chill in the air. Wednesday morning is going to feel quite brisk, with temperatures hanging around the upper 40s. Add in the light rain, and you’ll want to drive carefully as some slick spots could develop on the roads. As the day progresses, rain chances will drop significantly during the late morning. Expect overcast skies with temperatures creeping into the low 50s.

Midday to Evening Weather

From noon to 8 p.m., the rain dance will likely conclude, giving way to mostly cloudy skies and temperatures that might reach the mid- to upper 50s. However, keep in mind that although that sounds cozy, it’s still about 5 degrees below what we’d normally expect for mid-January!

Warm Air on the Horizon

Hold onto your hats, because the winds are set to switch directions later in the week! This change will draw in some warm air, leading to highs in the lower to mid-60s on Thursday and potentially hitting near a pleasant 70 degrees by Friday. But don’t get too comfortable just yet!

The Big Chill: Arctic Front Incoming!

Brace yourselves, because this weekend will take a drastic turn! An arctic cold front is forecasted to sweep through Texas on Saturday, bringing the coldest air we’ve experienced this winter. Highs could be in the 60s, but don’t get too cozy because temperatures are likely to take a nosedive by Sunday morning, hitting close to freezing.

What’s in Store for MLK Day?

Looking ahead, it appears that Martin Luther King Jr. Day could turn icy. Morning lows may drop to around 32 degrees, with daytime highs barely scraping through the mid- to upper 40s. Yikes! Plus, a new front is expected to roll in on Monday, which could lead to some hard freezes and wind chill temperatures dipping into the teens.

Possible Wintry Weather

And here’s where it gets really interesting—there are growing chances for wintry precipitation from Monday to Wednesday next week, with possibilities of ice, snow, and sleet. While it’s tough to pinpoint exact amounts, the probability of such conditions is increasing, especially with a coastal trough forming in deep South Texas and Mexico.

Stay Prepared!

As we gear up for these weather changes, make sure to keep an eye on the forecasts and prepare accordingly! Whether it’s grabbing your rain boots due to Tuesday’s drizzle or bundling up for the freezing weekend, South Texas has quite the mixed bag of weather to look forward to!
