Jason Holt and his son Isaac Holt were photographed kneeling before their relative’s new headstone inside of Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Thursday. Private First Class T.C. Hawkins was one of the 17 Black World War 1 soldiers sentenced to death after a hasty trial following the “Houston Riots” in 1917. In 2023, the Army reviewed their cases and dismissed the convictions, directing the soldiers’ records to reflect honorable discharges.
