San Antonio Residents: Just One Month Left for Free Tax Preparation with VITA
As the tax season continues in full swing, San Antonio residents have a final month left to avail themselves of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) for their free tax filing needs. A collaboration between the United Way of San Antonio, Bexar County, Catholic Charities, and the City of San Antonio, VITA offers free tax preparation services that are accessible to households earning up to $60,000.
VITA: A Community Connection
VITA services are conducted by trained tax preparers at any of the 13 designated VITA sites across San Antonio, with services also available in Spanish. The program has significantly aided the community since the beginning of the year 2024, with over $20.74 million in tax refunds secured and an impressive $2.8 million saved in tax preparation fees. So far, the program has served and benefited over 12,600 residents in the area.
Accessibility and Availability
In an effort to further bolster accessibility, VITA has extended its reach by launching pop-up sites in various city locations and a mobile unit that serves key spots for the benefit of the city’s vulnerable populations. The 13 VITA locations are open Monday through Friday, until the tax filing deadline, April 15. Additionally, select sites also offer refund anticipation loans with no interest or accompanying fees.
