Stellar San Antonio high school ranks among America’s best in 2024, says U.S. News

San Antonio’s BASIS High School Achieves Top National Ranking

San Antonio may proudly boast that it’s home to one of the nation’s top high schools. Notably, one San Antonio high school, BASIS San Antonio – Shavano Campus, has recently clinched top spots in the esteemed U.S. News and World Report’s annual rankings of America’s best public high schools.

Among the Best in the Country

The 2024 rankings, released on April 23, list BASIS San Antonio – Shavano Campus at an illustrious No. 64 spot nationally, a significant leap from No. 81 in the previous year and No. 77 back in 2022.

Moreover, the esteemed school ranks No. 13 among the nation’s best charter schools and No. 76 among the most excellent STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) high schools. The top spot for 2024 was taken by the BASIS Peoria Charter School located in Peoria, Arizona.

Key Evaluation Factors

Each year, the U.S. News evaluates nearly 18,000 high schools based on six critical factors: college readiness; reading and math proficiency; reading and math performance; performance of underserved students; college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. LaMont Jones, Ed.D., the managing editor of education at U.S. News, stated in a press release, “The 2024 Best High Schools rankings can act as a guiding light for parents as they seek to understand a school’s academic performance – whether it’s a prospective school or one that their child is currently attending”.

Other Texas Achievers

In the same vein, other high schools around Texas have also managed to gain spots within the national top 100 list:

  • Dallas ISD’s The School for the Talented and Gifted scored No. 6.
  • Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School clinched No. 23.
  • Grand Prairie ISD’s Collegiate Institute claimed No. 30.
  • Austin ISD’s Liberal Arts and Science Academy stood at No. 38.

Notably, BASIS San Antonio – Shavano Campus also made its mark within the top-rated public high schools of Texas, ranking No. 7 and retaining its top 10 position for a consecutive year.
