San Antonio’s First Kimpton Hotel Schools The City With 4 Hospitality Concepts

2024 is shaping up to be the year of the hotel in San Antonio, with multiple interesting projects sprouting around the city. However, one upcoming project has stirred particular interest, revealing more about its promising concepts for the upcoming summer. After initial teasers about their venture in 2023, Kimpton Santo has now fully unveiled the details of its food and beverage program on June 25th, 2024.

Dean’s Steak & Seafood – The Main Attraction

The main highlight of Kimpton Santo is its leading role, Dean’s Steak & Seafood, placed in a restored 19th-century schoolhouse. Spearheaded by Executive Chef Robert Garcia, known for his past work at J.Prime, Ruth’s Chris, and Bohanan’s, the menu will boast of prime steaks, fresh seafood (including a raw bar), and a selection of A5 Japanese and Texas wagyu.

The restaurant combines the old and the new, preserving the schoolhouse’s original limestone walls while accommodating a large number of guests. The restaurant boasts a two-level dining room and a private wine room, providing seating for 207 guests.

The Four Hospitality Concepts

The hotel’s four distinct spaces each bring something different to the table. The Bar at Dean’s leads the more casual of these experiences, serving the entire steakhouse menu along with an exclusive ‘Dean’s List’ of rare Bourbons and vintage wine bottles. The concept comes to life with woven panels created by local conceptual artist Doerte Weber, which pay homage to the surrounding culture, history, and land of the Kimpton Santo.

Following dinner, The Study at Dean’s offers a space to enjoy a nightcap, serving up high-end cocktails with bite-sized snacks such as smoked salmon tartlets, caviar, and charcuterie aboard. The lounge and patio seating for 78 patrons make it an intimate venue for an after-meal retreat.

Taking the action from ground to air, the Tenfold Rooftop features an adventurous drink program, highlighting the spirit of the region’s famed tequilas and mezcals. Elevating the roof-top dining experience, a curated 13-item menu will satisfy international palates. All of these selections will be available à la carte or as part of a chef-selected prix fixe menu.

With an anticipated opening in August, the 10-story property is also set to feature 347 rooms, over 10,000 square feet of event and meeting space, and a stunning rooftop pool. This is undoubtedly a significant move in shaping the hospitality landscape in the city of San Antonio.

Looking Ahead

With the proliferation of hotels and hospitality concepts, this is definitely a new era for Alamo City. It’s not just about building more hotels, but about designing new experiences and nurturing the local culture and history. With this in mind, the Kimpton Santo’s approach indicates a promising future for the city’s hospitality scene.
