Applications Now Open for Scholarship Honoring San Antonio-area Airplane Mechanic

SAN ANTONIO – Dedicated Aircraft Mechanic Remembered Through Scholarship

The family of a devoted airplane mechanic from San Antonio, Zachary Collie-Moreno, has announced that applications are now open for a scholarship founded in his honor. Zachary, who tragically died in a plane crash in Wisconsin in July 2023, had his life-long dream of touching the skies and was dedicated to his mechanic profession right from a very young age.

“Zach was always looking up at the sky,” said his mother, Jennifer Greenberg. “He truly believed that’s where he belonged, and it was a joy for him to do what he loved the most.”

Celebrating The Legacy of A Young Achiever

By the time he was 20, Collie-Moreno had already become a well-regarded aircraft mechanic and was a proud member of the Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing. His untimely death shook not only his family but also the entire aviation community, leading to the establishment of his scholarship fund in collaboration with the Commemorative Air Force (CAF).

“We have been blown away by the sheer number of people from various parts of the country who stepped forward to contribute towards the scholarship fund in honor of Zach”, expressed an emotional Greenberg. The scholarship fund, aiming to keep the memory of Zach alive, has managed to amass an impressive sum of over $50,000 in less than a year.

Scholarship for Those With An Aviation Dream

The CAF now wishes to award multiple scholarships from the funds raised in Collie-Moreno’s name. As per the family, the prime candidate for this scholarship should be someone who shares the same passion for aviation as Zach and chooses to be a part of it out of their will and not forcefully.

“Zach could relate to anyone who was in aviation simply because he or she was as passionate about flying as he was himself. If we can award this scholarship to someone with the same kind of love for aviation, it would indeed fill us with pride and it would make Zach very happy too,” mentioned Greenberg.

Further Details About Application and Eligibility

As of now, there’s no specific deadline set for the Collie-Moreno’s scholarship application. Interested and eligible candidates can find more details about submission and qualification criteria on the official scholarship page.

It is important to note that we also reached out to the family of Devyn Reiley, who was the pilot of the plane in the tragic crash that claimed Zach’s life. While they politely refused to comment at this time, a scholarship page has been opened in her name, and contributions are being accepted.
