Suspect in Custody After Attempting to Run Over Texas DPS Trooper
SAN ANTONIO – In an alarming turn of events, a man who allegedly attempted to run over a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper is now in how custody. The suspect, identified as Chase McDonald, was cornered and apprehended by the Texas Rangers with assistance from the San Antonio Police in less than a day.
McDonald’s Arrest History
McDonald, 34, has had prior encounters with law enforcement. His rap sheet includes a string of arrests, notably multiple instances of vehicle burglary.
The Incident
The incident that led to McDonald’s latest arrest unfolded around the vicinity of Interstate 10 and Wurzbach. A DPS trooper got suspicious of a vehicle with a stolen license plate, and justifiably attempted to apprehend the suspect – Chase McDonald.
As the trooper disembarked from his patrol car to effect the arrest, McDonald gunned his truck’s engine in an attempt to run over the officer. The quick-thinking trooper managed to fire a single shot before McDonald sped away from the scene.
The Manhunt and Arrest
Following a manhunt that lasted several hours, McDonald was finally located in the stairwell of the Easton Luxury Apartments off DeZavala road, on the Northwest side of San Antonio.
In an attempt to avoid arrest, McDonald tried to scale a fence but encountered an unexpected antagonist – a police K9. The dog bit McDonald who required medical treatment on the scene before being handcuffed and escorted to jail.
Potential New Charges
After this audacious and dangerous act, McDonald now faces new charges which may potentially add to his already existing litany of legal misdemeanors. He is currently being held in police custody, awaiting formal charges and a date in court.
