San Antonio Gears Up for the Grand Festivities of Muertos Fest

San Antonio, – The anticipation of the city’s vibrant and cultural heritage comes to culmination with the announcement of the 12th annual Muertos Fest. Known as the largest Día de Los Muertos festival in the state, the celebration is a tribute to past and future generations and a testament to San Antonio’s rich traditions and diversity.

Event Details Unveiled

Mark your calendars for October 26 and 27 as the city illuminates with the festivities of the Muertos Fest. The two-day free event will take place at Hemisfair and Civic Park from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the first day and noon to 9 p.m. on the next. The festival is projected to welcome over 100,000 attendees over the two days, promising an opportunity for locals and tourists alike to bask in the city’s vibrant culture and traditions.

An Array of Activities

The festival will not fall short of entertainment with a lineup of 50 performances from bands, poets, and dancers on five stages. They will feature a medley of renowned musicians including Girl In A Coma, Piñata Protest, and Jesse Borrego.

Art lovers can look forward to an exhibition of original artwork, while dance enthusiasts can sway to the rhythmic beats of music. The celebration will also feature a drum and puppet procession, live poetry readings, and a record of 80 altars dedicated to honoring the deceased.

Muertos Fest: A Symbol of San Antonio’s Heart and Soul

Artistic director of the event, Jim Mendiola, expressed pride in how San Antonio celebrates the event, commenting – “I like to argue that the way it’s celebrated here in South Texas is distinct in San Antonio. It has since transformed across the border. It’s celebrated in the United States where it’s almost an American holiday in itself.”

Muertos Fest goes beyond being just an event, it’s a representation of San Antonio’s spirit, respect for its ancestors, and a showcase of its vibrant cultural tapestry. It’s a time when the whole city comes together to honor and remember their loved ones who have passed away, creating a sense of unity and community.
