San Antonio Faces Drought as October Drags On
Hey there, San Antonio! It looks like Mother Nature hasn’t been very generous with us lately when it comes to rain. Normally, October is a month where we expect to see a good amount of rain—it’s actually our third-wettest month of the year. However, this year has thrown us a curveball, and we find ourselves experiencing some serious dry spells.
No Rain in Sight
Can you believe it’s been over 40 days since we last saw measurable rainfall in San Antonio? The last recorded rain was back on September 5, when we received a somewhat decent 1.46 inches. Fast forward to now, and it feels like we are all waiting for a miracle in the rain department. According to the latest data from the drought monitor, the situation is quite concerning — over 55.1% of Texas is currently experiencing drought conditions, and it’s especially dire out in the Big Bend region.
The Impact of the Drought
With the lack of rain, warmer-than-average temperatures have also stretched well into October, and our drought conditions are intensifying. This has serious implications for our local waterways, including the Edwards Aquifer, lakes, reservoirs, and rivers. If we don’t see some rain soon, it could start affecting our water supply and the environment.
What’s Next? Rain Chances Are Slim
As we look ahead, the forecast isn’t offering much hope. The chances for rain this coming week hover between 10% and 20%, which is pretty minimal. The Climate Prediction Center has also issued outlooks that continue to call for a drier-than-average November, and unfortunately, it seems that our warm and dry trend might continue into the upcoming winter months.

For those who might not be familiar, La Niña is a climate pattern that generally leads to drier and warmer weather across South Central Texas during the winter months.
