San Antonio Gears Up for Major Highway Closure This Weekend
Hey there, San Antonio! If you’re planning to hit the roads this weekend, you might want to pay extra attention. There’s a big highway closure set to take place that will impact drivers on the Northwest Side. That’s right, Loop 1604 will be closed in both directions at the intersection with Interstate 10. This includes the cloverleaf ramps, so it’s essential to have a plan in place.
Closure Times and What to Expect
Mark your calendars! The closure is scheduled to kick off at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 18 and is expected to last until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 21. So, for those of you who were thinking about a late-night drive or an early morning trek, be prepared for some detours. But don’t worry – I-10 will still be open during this time, so you will have an alternate route available.
Traffic Assistance in Place
To make things a bit smoother for everyone, officials from TxDOT will have law enforcement at the intersection of La Cantera and I-10. Plus, they’ve even made arrangements with Six Flags to have law enforcement present at their entrance. This is especially crucial since a large crowd is expected on Saturday. The goal is to assist with traffic flow and minimize any backups that could arise from the busy weekend.
Access to Local Businesses
If you’re worried about getting to your favorite local spots, relax! Access to businesses will remain open during the construction period. So whether you’re heading out for a meal, shopping, or just visiting friends, you will still be able to reach your destination without too much hassle.
Plan Ahead!
For all the drivers out there, it’s highly recommended that you plan ahead. Using navigation apps on your phones or vehicles can help you get real-time traffic information and find the best alternate routes. Remember, closures could open early if work is completed before the scheduled end time. Keeping an eye on those apps could save you some serious time!
What’s Causing the Closure?
Now, you might be wondering what all the fuss is about. Since January, there has been major work going on to install steel beams for the construction of new flyover ramps at the interchange. Exciting news – that steel beam work is currently 63% complete! So far, a total of 95 beams have been put in place. This means that in the coming months, we can look forward to the opening of the first flyover ramp, which will connect eastbound Loop 1604 to westbound I-10. That sounds like a huge improvement for traffic flow!
Wrapping Up
So, San Antonio, be sure to keep this closure in mind as you plan your weekend activities. Stay safe, drive carefully, and make sure to enjoy everything our marvelous city has to offer. As always, we appreciate your understanding as we work towards improving our roadways for the future. Happy travels!
