New Bridge Set to Open in San Antonio This Weekend
Hey, San Antonio! We have some exciting news to share about a new bridge at the intersection of Blanco Road and Loop 1604. However, before you start planning your weekend outings, you should know that the round-the-clock construction may create some traffic challenges.
What to Expect This Weekend
Starting at 9 p.m. Friday night and lasting until 5 a.m. Monday morning, the intersection at Blanco Road and Loop 1604 will be closed. This means that both the northbound and southbound lanes on Blanco Road will be off-limits at that intersection. If you usually use the eastbound frontage road on Loop 1604, you will also find it closed at the Blanco Road spot. Sounds a bit inconvenient, doesn’t it?
But hang tight! This closure is part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion project, and it’s all to finalize the construction of the new bridge that is set to open just in time for your Monday commute. Once the construction is complete, a new traffic route will be in place for all of us using the Blanco Road bridge over Loop 1604.
Plan Ahead with Alternate Routes
In light of the upcoming construction, drivers are encouraged to think ahead and choose alternative routes to avoid frustrating detours. If you’re traveling along the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road and want to access the main eastbound lanes, you’ll need to take a quick turnaround at Blanco Road. From there, keep going on the Loop 1604 westbound frontage road until you reach Bitters Road, and you can enter the eastbound main lanes from the Bitters Road entrance ramp.
Another handy tip—if you’re feeling adventurous and want to get back on the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road, just use the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp. Easy peasy!
Need to Get to Blanco Road?
For anyone looking to reach Blanco Road across the interchange, your best bet will be to turn right onto Huebner Road and then take a left onto Bitters Road back to Blanco Road. Just remember to follow the same eastbound frontage road detour mentioned earlier.
If you’re hitting the road from the other side, it will be similar. You’ll want to take a left onto Bitters Road, then a right onto Huebner Road to get back onto Loop 1604. Not exactly a straight shot, but it’ll do!
Patience is Key!
