The city of San Antonio has announced the initiation of the Diabetes Insulin Assistance Program in collaboration with H-E-B. The program is designed to aid residents grappling with the high costs of insulin medication, offering them financial support and raising awareness about free diabetes self-management workshops conducted by the city’s Metropolitan Health District.
The program has committed to covering up to $100 per insulin prescription, including refills, for San Antonio and Bexar County residents collectively. The support is available for all residents, regardless of their insurance status, and will continue until funds are depleted.
Eligible residents can visit any of the 19 participating H-E-B pharmacies scattered across the city to drop off or send in their prescriptions. Free delivery is also an option within a 15-mile radius, making access to their necessary medication even easier.
Interested individuals can fill out a consent form at the pharmacy or online at SA.gov/Health to enroll in the program. While the city encourages participating in its free diabetes self-management workshops, it is not a mandatory requirement to obtain financial assistance.
This program is a significant move by the San Antonio administration in its continued quest for healthier communities. By making diabetes management more affordable, it aims to benefit those locals grappling with the high costs of insulin. This initiative also underlines the broader commitment towards raising awareness about diabetes and offering resources to manage it effectively.
For further assistance or information about the program, individuals can call the number 311 or visit SA.gov/Health.
