The Towne Twin Village exemplifies San Antonio's efforts in affordable housing.
San Antonio is making strides in addressing the affordable housing crisis through initiatives like the Towne Twin Village and the recently opened Nova Lofts. The city is committed to supporting vulnerable populations, including the homeless and veterans, by building new tiny homes and multi-family apartments. These developments not only offer affordable living options but also include essential amenities to foster a sense of community. With a focus on integrating supportive resources, San Antonio is paving the way for a brighter future for its residents.
San Antonio is hosting a warm celebration as the city unveils its latest efforts to tackle the affordable housing crisis. The spotlight is currently shining on the east side where a fantastic new tiny home village is welcoming new residents. This endeavor is all about providing safe and affordable housing, and it’s wonderful to witness such a significant commitment to supporting the community.
Hold onto your hats, because 41 brand-new houses are being added to the existing tiny home village at Towne Twin Village, costing nearly $10 million. These homes are specifically aimed at helping some of the city’s most vulnerable populations, particularly targeting the homeless community over 50 years old, including veterans and individuals with disabilities. This is a progressive and heartwarming way to ensure that those who have faced life’s challenges are given a second chance.
Located on Dietrich Road off Loop 410, this cozy community aims to provide more than just a roof over someone’s head. These homes will join the 83 others that were officially opened earlier this year. It’s like watching a dream come to life, as the project is a testament to the city’s dedication to constructing a brighter future for all.
The journey doesn’t stop at just building homes. The project’s phase one introduced exciting amenities including a transportation pavilion, chapel, and multi-purpose complex. In phase two, the plans get even better with the addition of community kitchens, laundry facilities, and gathering areas where residents can connect and bond. This is a holistic approach to affordable housing, emphasizing both comfort and community.
This initiative marks San Antonio’s first permanent supportive housing project, which was greenlit thanks to a 2022 bond. A special committee is tasked with ensuring that the most vulnerable individuals are chosen to reside in Towne Twin Village. Plus, there are volunteers available on the property to help residents navigate their new lives—what a fantastic way to foster a supportive community spirit!
NOVA Lofts officially opened on March 24, 2025, and it boasts several amenities including an outdoor playground, business center, and fitness room, ensuring that families have everything they need. Income limits for Nova Lofts are set at 30% AMI for eight units, 50% AMI for 25 units, and 60% AMI for 32 units. This means that renters can find comfortable living spaces at accessible rates, ranging from $425 to $1,267 depending on the type of apartment.
On the horizon, we also have The Baltazar, which will open on the northwest side off I-10 West near Vance Jackson. This exciting community will feature 60 units with floor plans ranging from one to three bedrooms, aimed at residents earning between 30% to 60% of the area’s median income.
This new development is also geared towards providing quality amenities such as a fitness center, picnic tables, and a community room—all designed to make living there not just accessible, but enjoyable.
With these new ventures, San Antonio is writing a positive chapter in the story of affordable housing. From the growth of Towne Twin Village to the fresh offerings at Nova Lofts and the anticipation surrounding The Baltazar, the city continues to step up in addressing its housing challenges. It’s heartening to see such initiatives taking shape, paving the way for a community that cares and shares. The future looks bright for both current residents and those seeking new beginnings!
