AK Guy Embroils in Controversy Amidst His Campaign Trail in San Antonio

AK Guy Embroils in Controversy Amidst His Campaign Trail in San Antonio

AK Guy Brandishes His Candidacy with Sharp Remarks

In San Antonio, the political arena heated up last Thursday when Brandon Herrera, a right-wing vlogger running to unseat current GOP Congressman Tony Gonzales, made controversial remarks against overweight women during his campaign stop. Herrera, popularly known as the ‘AK Guy’, has been notorious for his staunch support for gun rights. The latest event witnessed the controversial congressmen Matt Gaetz from Florida extending his support for Herrera.

A Controversial Rally at the Angry Elephant

Delivering speeches at the GOP-themed watering hole, the Angry Elephant, Herrera and Gaetz targeted familiar political rivals, namely immigrants and President Joe Biden. Riling up the crowd, Herrera threw a jibe at overweight women, saying “I saw a statistic that last year, more fentanyl came across the Southern border by weight than would be required to kill the entire population of the planet – or about the weight of 26 Austin Feminists”. The witty remark earned him laughs from the crowd wearing ‘MAGA’ hats.

Herrera’s Rival Gonzalez Draws Anti-Party Sentiments

Herrera is in the middle of a primary runoff for representing Texas’s 23rd District. His rival, Tony Gonzales, is considered a moderate GOP member who supports gay marriage and limited gun control. Gonzalez’s liberal ideas have drawn criticism from his own party, giving Herrera an upper hand in the pursuit of the seat.

Herrera’s Controversial Campaign Trail

Herrera’s journey of inflammatory remarks is not a recent development. His past remarks include making fun of veteran suicides, ridiculing former President Donald Trump’s son, and expressing doubts over Trump’s capability to win in November. Daniel Patrick, Texas’s Lieutenant Governor and a fellow hardliner, showed his disapproval of Herrera’s sentiments by endorsing Gonzales on Monday.

Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz’s Support Boosts Herrera’s Rally

Matt Gaetz, a controversial figure himself, provided a much-needed boost to Herrera’s controversial campaign. Gaetz was recently cleared of sex trafficking allegations by the U.S. Justice Department, adding to his controversial tenure. Despite the scandal, Gaetz continues to be a popular figure among far-right conservatives. During the rally, Gates steered clear from his past issues, focusing instead on praising Herrera’s audacity.

As the election cycle progresses, it remains to be seen how the controversial remarks and affiliations of candidates such as Brandon Herrera and Matt Gaetz will affect the voter sentiment. The voters of the 23rd District play a crucial role and their decision between Herrera and Gonzalez will be revealed on May 28.
