In an alarming incident that unfolded in San Antonio’s South Side neighborhood, a man was severely assaulted with a baseball bat by an unidentified suspect. However, the suspect reportedly fled the scene after the victim’s sister brandished and discharged a firearm, local law enforcement officials said.
The unfortunate episode began around 2 a.m. on a recent Sunday at a local bar located in the 4800 block of South Flores Street. According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the victim, along with some of his family members, were forcefully escorted out of the bar due to a brawl with multiple individuals, who were later identified as the suspects.
The family members left the scene of confrontation in separate vehicles and subsequently regrouped at around 3 a.m. in the 9800 block of Collin Grove, presumably to evade any further unwanted encounter.
However, SAPD officials say an unknown quantity of the initial bar skirmish participants managed to track the family members down to their Collin Grove location. There, one of them got out of a vehicle and proceeded to attack the earlier-mentioned victim with a baseball bat, causing him severe injuries.
In an attempt to halt the brutal assault and protect her brother, the victim’s sister quickly retrieved a firearm and shot in the direction of the suspects. This sudden development caused the entire group of assailants to hastily withdraw from the scene.
Following the attack and subsequent shooting, the battered victim was rushed to a local hospital for advanced medical attention. At this time, his condition remains unknown.
While it’s unclear whether any of the fleeing suspects were hit by the gunfire, the SAPD assured that an intensive investigation into the incident is currently under way. It is not yet known if any of them have been identified or apprehended.
This shocking story exemplifies the increasing challenges facing the local law enforcement agencies as they strive to maintain public safety amidst rising tensions and violence. Anyone with relevant information about this case is encouraged to contact the SAPD.
