Back-to-School Fairs in San Antonio Offer Free Supplies till August 10

Excitement is brewing in San Antonio as more than a dozen events across the city are set to give out free school supplies in the upcoming weeks. With the new academic year fast approaching, these school supply fairs play a crucial role in providing much-needed materials to families in need, ranging from backpacks, books, and stationery to even shoes at some locations. Not limited to merely school supplies, many of these fairs are also providing other essential resources like vaccines, health screenings, and haircuts.

Upcoming Fairs and Their Offerings

The series of events – hosted by a range of institutions such as churches, schools, and nonprofits – kicked off on Saturday, July 13, with IDEA Brackenridge on the Southwest side holding one of the first back-to-school fairs.

As the month of July continues, San Antonio families can look forward to an array of back-to-school fairs. On Saturday, July 20, four events are scheduled at various locations, including Southeast Baptist Church and San Antonio Food Bank. The following weekend, another series of fairs are set to take place at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church and San Antonio College.

As we move into August, the momentum continues with five more events booked for Saturday, August 3 at places like Trader’s Village and United for Christ Fellowship. Midweek enthusiasts will not be left out as South San Antonio ISD is planning a back-to-school fair at South San High School on Wednesday, August 7 along with a fair especially for students who are deaf or hard of hearing hosted by Aid the Silent.

The grand finale of these events will be taking place on Saturday, August 10, with three fairs being hosted at Miller’s Pond, Rosedale Park, and the San Antonio City Council District 1 office at Edison High School.

Preparation for the New Academic Year

These events represent an effort to ensure that all students, regardless of their families’ financial circumstances, have access to the necessary supplies needed for the school year. Providing students with the necessary equipment is crucial in ensuring that they have the opportunity to learn and thrive in their academic environment.

While some fairs require children to be present to collect school supplies, most open their doors to all, providing resources and infrastructure for health and education in a fun and festive atmosphere.

With the school year just around the corner, these events will undoubtedly play an essential role in setting students up for success and relieving some of the financial burdens faced by families during the back-to-school season.
