San Antonio’s Taco Scene Shines with Top Rankings and Exciting New Ventures

San Antonio Celebrates Taco Triumphs and New Culinary Ventures

San Antonio is buzzing with excitement this fall, and it’s not just about football! While the beloved sport captures the hearts of many Texans, the food scene is heating up too—especially when it comes to tacos. That’s right! A recent list of the 50 Best Tacos in Texas has stirred up a friendly debate among fans and foodies alike, and San Antonio is at the center of the action.

A Taco Takeover!

The taco list, compiled by the renowned taco editor José Ralat of Texas Monthly, has created quite a ripple since its debut on October 21. This was Ralat’s first definitive ranking of Texas tacos, and he made it count by travelling over 14,000 miles tasting tacos stretching from Amarillo all the way to Brownsville!

With all that traveling, the results are in, and San Antonio has come out strong! A grand total of 10 local tacos made the cut, with one shining brightly in the top 10. Leo Davila from Stix & Stone earned the coveted No. 8 spot for his unique Big Red and barbacoa taco flight, which Ralat described as “groundbreaking.” This taco flight doesn’t just boast delicious barbacoa; it also incorporates the sweet flavor of Texas’ iconic Big Red soda mixed into the masa, paired with a strawberry jam that makes your taste buds sing!

More San Antonio Delights!

Among the other local lucky winners are a mix of traditional San Antonio taquerias and innovative newcomers. Ralat’s approach didn’t just focus on the nostalgia of classic flavors; he assessed each taco based on taste and the quality of the tortilla, giving a nod to both tradition and creativity. Other spots on the list showcase the city’s diverse culinary talent, highlighting just how rich San Antonio’s taco landscape truly is!

Regional Showdowns

But San Antonio wasn’t the only city to shine—Austin took a strong contender in the taco race, with Nixta Taqueria securing the No. 10 spot. Houston and Dallas also left their mark with five selections each. Houston’s Azteca Taco House repped the city at No. 3, while Dallas won over taste buds with Revolver Taco Lounge at No. 4. However, the ultimate taco champion goes to Ana Liz Taqueria in Mission, led by James Beard Award-winning chef Ana Liz Pulido, celebrated for her imaginative deconstructed chile relleno taco.

If you’re curious to see the full list of winners, you can dive deeper into Texas’ taco treasures. The ongoing debates about where to find the best taco in Texas are bound to keep food lovers engaged for quite some time!

New Flavors Await with Jake Paul’s Endeavors

Jake Paul! On October 17, the viral sensation and professional boxer announced his partnership with the Pasadena-based chain Dog Haus. As a franchise owner and board member, he plans to open 25 new locations across the country, including four in Texas, with one set to debut right here in San Antonio.

The brand is no stranger to the Alamo City, as there is already a thriving location on Stone Oak Pkwy. There are still some details to sort out regarding whether Jake’s new venture will involve a fresh location or taking over an existing one. Known for its delicious hot dogs, beer, and tantalizing pub grub (including vegetarian options), Dog Haus is all set to bring something tasty to San Antonio.

As part of the launch excitement, all new locations are aiming to open by November 15, coinciding with Jake Paul’s highly publicized fight against Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium. You can bet there will be no shortage of cheering and delicious bites at these venues while fans gather to watch the fight!

Final Thoughts

With San Antonio’s vibrant food scene gaining recognition and exciting new ventures on the horizon, it’s truly a thrilling time to be a foodie in the city. So, taco lovers and food fans, sharpen your appetites and get ready to explore everything San Antonio has to offer!
