San Antonio Welcomes ‘Bruh Man’ for Some Fun and Sandwich Hunting

San Antonio was buzzing with excitement this past Friday when actor and comedian Reginald Ballard—better known as “Bruh Man” from the classic sitcom Martin—dropped by a local Whataburger for a unique filming experience. Ballard was in town to film scenes for his upcoming show, Bruh Man is Searching for the Perfect Sammich, and he certainly brought his charisma and humor along for the ride.

A Morning Like No Other at Whataburger

Every morning, regulars Bennie Button, Urban Hamm, and Jeffery Martinez, are right at home in their favorite corner booth at the Windcrest Whataburger, enjoying their usual breakfast—taquitos, sausage biscuits, and breakfast platters, respectively. However, this Friday, their routine was delightfully interrupted when they spotted a tall man sporting mango-colored Crocs and orange pajamas decorated with Whataburger logos stepping behind the counter.

The trio was momentarily taken aback, wondering what was happening. It turns out their surprise visitor was none other than Ballard, who was there to film scenes for his show while charming customers in the drive-thru.

Ballard’s lively personality and quick wit quickly won over those in the restaurant. He joked with the regulars, saying, “The burgers are free for the day, all you got to do is find me,” which sparked laughter and fond memories of his days on Martin. While the regulars might not have watched the show, they got a crash course on ‘Bruh Man’ from fellow patrons who recognized the comedian.

Filming at St. Philip’s College

Ballard’s visit to Whataburger was just one part of his jam-packed schedule as he continued filming at nearby St. Philip’s College. During this stop, he interacted with students, filmed skits, and even took a moment to engage with culinary arts students like Anthony Cubit and Anthony Gonzales. They even made him the star of a hilarious skit where they woke him up on the first day of class!

The culinary students relished the opportunity to meet and work alongside the comedic icon, sharing laughs and learning a thing or two about both comedy and sandwiches. Program Director Patrick Brown of St. Philip’s remarked on how valuable the experience was for students, giving them an inside look at what it’s like to be part of a comedy series.

A Warm Welcome at Whataburger

The manager of the Windcrest Whataburger, Dora Villa, shared that Ballard’s presence was serendipitous—she recounted that the night prior, patrons had recognized him, building excitement for his arrival. As a small birthday celebration, staff greeted him with a cake, bringing even more cheer to the day’s events.

Ballard spent about four hours at the restaurant, all the while interacting with fans and staff. Even students from St. Philip’s showed up to catch a glimpse of the star and snap some selfies, creating a memory that many won’t soon forget.

Capturing the Spirit of Sandwiches

The day was all about sandwiches for Ballard, who is determined to sample different variations across the country. In a previous episode, he chose Cubit’s creation, the “Poitrine Royal,” featuring a mouthwatering stack of smoked brisket sprinkled with 24-karat gold flakes—the kind of sandwich every Texas barbecue lover dreams of!

As the day wrapped up, Ballard commented on the warmth of San Antonio, saying, “I feel like I’m back home over here.” His love for the community and the culinary delights it has to offer truly shone through his interactions.

The Search Continues

As Reginald Ballard continues his quest for the ultimate sandwich in his upcoming show, one thing is for sure: he is bringing joy, laughter, and a whole lot of fun to the places he visits. If his San Antonio visit is any indication, fans can expect a lively mix of humor and food that’ll keep them grinning from ear to ear.

And who knows? Maybe we’ll all take a tip from Tjwonna Prince, a culinary arts student who suggested her favorite sandwich: the classic bologna and cheese on Texas toast, because sometimes, the perfect sammich is made of simple things.
