Good News for Utes: Cameron Rising’s Injury Less Serious Than Expected

Good News for Utah Fans: Cameron Rising’s Injury Isn’t as Bad as It Looked!

Hey there, folks! If you caught the game in Salt Lake City last weekend, you probably held your breath when Cameron Rising, the star quarterback for the Utes, went down late in the first half. It was a tense moment, especially when you saw him take a tumble and land hard near the drink station on the Baylor sideline. But fear not! It seems that Rising has managed to escape a serious injury.

What Happened Out There?

During Utah’s Week 2 game against Baylor, Rising was playing hard as usual. He scrambled left, tried to toss the ball, and then—bam! He was pushed out of bounds, and his hand crashed into a cooler that was sitting by the sidelines. Not exactly what any coach wants to see, right? He jumped back up but you could tell he was in some pain. His hand was bleeding, and he quickly made his way to the locker room before halftime.

Although Rising returned to the sidelines later in the game, he wasn’t wearing his uniform. Instead, he had a wrap around his middle and ring fingers, looking like he just came back from a rough tumble on the playground. While the rest of the team battled it out on the field, freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson filled in for him. It was a tough fight, but the Utes managed to secure a 23-12 victory—thanks to Rising’s solid performance in the first half!

Will Rising Be Back in Action?

The good news is that Rising will miss this weekend’s game against Utah State but is expected to return just in time for the showdown against Oklahoma State on September 21. And trust me, fans are breathing a sigh of relief! Rising, a seventh-year senior (yes, you read that right!), has already lit up the field this season with seven touchdown passes in under two games. Starting off strong with five touchdowns against Southern Utah and then throwing two more in the first half against Baylor shows just how crucial he is for the Utes.

Last season was a tough one for Utah fans as the team struggled without Rising after he suffered a devastating knee injury during the Rose Bowl in 2022. That absence left the team in a tight spot, and you could feel the impact when some quarterbacks took turns trying to fill his shoes. Not to mention, one of those QBs, Bryson Barnes, transferred to Utah State during the offseason and is set to start for the Aggies this weekend. Talk about a storyline!

What’s Next?

So, while the Utes will have to manage without their star quarterback against Utah State, it’s just a temporary setback. The team definitely showed resilience in the first half against Baylor, but you have to wonder how they’ll adjust without Rising’s leadership. Isaac Wilson had a little taste of the spotlight, completing 4-of-9 passes for 30 yards. Let’s see if he can build on that as he gears up for this next game.

The bottom line is: Rising seems to have dodged a bullet, and there’s a lot to look forward to as the Utes head into the next phase of their season. Will he be back on the field to lead the charge against Oklahoma State? It’s a wait-and-see game, but for now, it feels a lot better knowing he should be back in action soon. Stay tuned, Utes fans!
