Chilly Weather Hits San Antonio: A Break from the Warmth
San Antonio residents, hold on to your jackets! This Wednesday marks a significant dip in temperature as a cold front sweeps through our beloved city. With high temperatures expected to stay below 70 degrees, it’s safe to say that we’ll be feeling a little chillier than what we’ve gotten used to over the past several months.
Long, Warm Streak Coming to an End
To put things into perspective, March 20 was the last time San Antonio experienced highs in the 60s. Since then, we have basked in the warmth of the sun for a whopping 244 consecutive days with highs hitting at least 70 degrees. This incredible stretch is the second-longest in the city’s history. However, it seems that our warm-weather luck is about to take a break!
Thanks to a strong cold front that rolled in late Tuesday night, Wednesday’s weather is shaping up to offer a bit of a shock to the system. Not only are high temperatures set to flop below the 70-degree mark, but many areas across South Texas can expect low temps to drop into the upper 30s by Thursday morning.
Chilly Morning Ahead
Wednesday morning will start off quite cool, with temperatures around San Antonio lingering in the upper 40s from 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. And don’t forget about the gusty winds! Expect breezy conditions with winds blowing around 15 mph and gusts reaching up to 25 mph, resulting in wind chill values that could feel like the mid-40s. This will definitely add to the chill in the air!
In the Hill Country, places like Boerne, Fredericksburg, and Kerrville will see temps dipping even lower, hovering around the 42 to 45 degrees. Wind chill values in these areas could drop to the upper 30s, making it feel even colder.
What to Expect Later in the Day
If you’re dreaming of sunshine, fear not! The afternoon will be accompanied by bright, sunny skies as temperatures slowly climb. However, don’t get too cozy—highs for the San Antonio metro area are expected to only reach 69 degrees, while Hill Country towns will remain chillier with highs in the mid-60s. As the sun sets, get ready for temperatures to fall below 60 degrees shortly after 6 p.m., dipping to the mid-50s by 8 p.m. It’s going to feel like a truly chilly evening!
A Frosty Thursday Morning
As we transition into Thursday, clear skies and dry air will persist across South Texas, allowing for another drop in temperatures. Prepare for Thursday morning lows around 40 degrees in the metro area and upper 30s just beyond the city limits. If temperatures happen to fall to 40 or lower, it would mark the coldest day in San Antonio since February 19!
But that’s not all! The Hill Country might even see some places hit the low to mid-30s, with a few areas potentially facing their first light freeze of the season. While we shouldn’t expect any severe impacts from these chilly temps, it’s something to keep your eye on.
Warmer Days Ahead
Looking down the forecast road, the rest of the week is set to see a gradual warming trend. Highs will inch into the low 70s on Thursday, mid-70s on Friday, and creep up to the upper 70s by Saturday. However, those chilly lows will stick around, settling into the mid- to upper 40s on both Friday and Saturday.
Hold on to your hats! By Sunday and early next week, we can expect a more significant warm-up with highs reaching the mid-80s, threatening to break daily high temperature records!
