News Summary

Bexar County is preparing for a significant drop in temperatures as the National Weather Service issues a Cold Weather Advisory from 9 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday. Residents should expect wind chills in the single digits, with Thursday and Friday seeing highs barely above 40 degrees. The article details necessary precautions and provides a weekend forecast, highlighting a community event rescheduling due to the cold weather.

Cold Weather Advisory Hits Bexar County: Brace Yourselves!

Attention, Bexar County! It looks like we’re in for a chilly ride as the National Weather Service has just issued a Cold Weather Advisory for our area and surrounding counties. This advisory will be in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday. An arctic cold front is rolling in, bringing with it a swift and significant drop in temperatures. So grab your cozy sweaters and hot cocoa, because winter has arrived a bit early!

What’s Happening?

As the cold front pushes south into Texas, it triggers cold weather alerts across parts of South and Central Texas. This includes our lovely Hill Country and urban centers along the Interstate 35 corridor. Residents can expect these alerts to remain in active status until at least noon Wednesday, so be prepared!

What to Expect?

Get ready to bundle up! Wind chill values are projected to plummet into the single digits. Yes, you read that right! For those living in affected areas, including Bexar, Guadalupe, Comal, Hays, Travis, Williamson, and more, it’s important to stay warm and stay safe.

Winds are expected to range from 15 to 20 mph, with gusts possibly hitting up to 30 mph. This will undoubtedly make an already cool day feel even colder. On Wednesday morning, don’t be surprised if you wake up to temperatures just below freezing, with high expectations of only reaching a frosty 45 degrees throughout the day.

A Look at the Forecast

As we zoom in on the forecast, Tuesday is beginning with a **high** of 71 degrees — a deceptive warmth before the arctic front swoops in. Expect some patchy fog and drizzle during the morning, with scattered showers likely east of Interstate 35 by the afternoon. Be cautious and plan your drive accordingly!

As we transition into Wednesday, prepare for a drastic temperature drop to as low as 23 degrees overnight. For Thursday and Friday, we can look forward to mostly sunny skies, but don’t let that fool you; daytime highs will barely scratch 40 degrees. Predawn temperatures will hover around freezing, so remember to dress in layers!

Winter Precautions

Keep your eyes peeled for a possible ice accumulation on Friday night due to light drizzle and freezing mist. This could pose hazardous conditions on elevated surfaces around San Antonio. If you have any outdoor plans, be mindful of the slippery footing!

The Weekend Outlook

Looking ahead to the weekend, there’s a 20% chance of showers on Saturday, but temperatures could rise to a milder 50 degrees during the day. Overnight lows, however, are expected to stay above freezing, which is a small relief!

A Community Announcement

Basura Bash Cleanup, dedicated to beautifying San Antonio’s waterways, has been rescheduled! Originally set for February 22, mark your calendars for the new date: March 8, 2025. This is one of the largest volunteer-driven environmental efforts in our region, so we hope you’ll still join in once the weather takes a turn for the better.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it, Bexar County! A chilly blast is upon us, and while it might not feel like the heart of winter yet, it’s a good reminder to prepare for the cold. Stay warm, stay safe, and let’s make the best of this wintery weather!
