Rainy Days Could Finally Be Here for San Antonio!
San Antonio, it seems like it’s been ages since we last saw some good rain. In fact, this Sunday marks an impressive milestone: the 52nd consecutive day without any measurable rainfall. This ties with the fourth-longest dry spell in our city’s history! But fear not, because a shift in the weather is finally on the way!
For the past eight weeks, a stubborn high-pressure system has been sitting firmly over us. But it’s now ready to move east, which clears the way for a cool front to make its way into Texas. This means that our chances for some much-needed rain are finally increasing. While we can’t promise that everyone will get a downpour, it’s definitely our best shot in quite a while!
What to Expect this Week
Let’s break down what we can expect in the coming days. It looks like we’ll start off this Sunday with cool and comfortable temperatures; the low will settle in the mid-60s. You might see a few clouds when you wake up, but don’t worry, those will clear up and give way to a lovely sunny afternoon!
If you’re curious about how warm it’s going to get, you’ll be happy to hear that San Antonio will hit around 80 degrees by 11 a.m. and soar to the upper 80s by the late afternoon. We’re looking at a high of around 89 to 90 degrees, significantly warmer than the average high of 79 degrees for this time of year! So, if you’ve got outdoor plans, make sure to soak up that sunshine!
Looking ahead to Monday, we can expect a repeat of Sunday’s pleasant weather. After a cool, partly cloudy morning, things will shift to mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. The temperatures will also remain in the upper 80s, and you might feel a little more breeze as winds start to pick up at about 15 mph.
The Change is Coming!
By Tuesday, things are going to get interesting! A low-pressure system is expected to strengthen in the western United States. While this won’t directly hit us with rain just yet, it means we can expect an increase in cloud cover and even stronger winds, with gusts possibly reaching up to 30 mph by Tuesday afternoon in San Antonio.
Then, as we dive into Wednesday night, that cold front will start its journey through the Panhandle and North Texas. It will bring with it cooler air and significantly higher rain chances for the northern part of the state. For us down here in South Texas, we might see a few showers or light storms, but overall, our rain chances remain relatively low until that front continues to push southward.
Come Thursday, which just happens to be Halloween, rain chances will peak in San Antonio at around 30-40%—perfect timing if you’re planning on taking the little ones out for some trick-or-treating! Don’t forget to grab that umbrella just in case the skies seem a little grumpy!
What Lies Ahead
As we get into the weekend and early next week, it looks like we’re in for an active weather pattern. While it’s tricky to nail down exactly when we’ll see the best rain chances in South Texas, the forecast does hint at daily chances for some rainfall across the state. Most importantly, the areas in Central, North, and Northeast Texas could see between 1 to 4 inches of rain, while we expect significantly lower totals here in South Texas, with most of us getting less than half an inch.
