Good morning, San Antonio! If you’ve stepped outside recently, you might have noticed a slight chill in the air—and that’s because a cold front swept through South Texas on Wednesday afternoon. While this front didn’t send temperatures plummeting right away, it did bring much drier air into the area, which means we’re in for some pleasantly cool mornings ahead.
Friday morning promises to offer a refreshing start, with temperatures dipping down to around 63 to 65 degrees. This chill will be especially noticeable across the Hill Country, where some folks might even see the mercury drop into the mid- to upper-50s. So, if you have plans to be up early, make sure to grab a sweater or a light jacket!
This cooler trend is a definite change from the sticky summer days we’ve been enduring. The dry air allows temperatures to cool down quickly, and boy, don’t we love that! Keep in mind, though, that while mornings are cooler, afternoons will still pack a punch with warm weather.
Later in the day, things will heat up nicely. After starting the morning around 67 to 69 degrees in the San Antonio metro, expect the temperature to climb to around 80 degrees by 11 a.m. That’s right around the corner from the expected high of 89 degrees for the afternoon, which is pretty typical for this time of year. If we fall short of reaching 90 degrees, it would break a streak of 16 days with those sweltering highs.
One pleasant surprise this week is the noticeable drop in humidity. Dew points, which have been lingering in the upper 60s and low 70s lately, are expected to fall to about mid-50s by Thursday afternoon. This means you can enjoy the outdoors without feeling like you’re stuck in a sauna. Less humidity means the heat index is not a worry, making it a perfect time for some outdoor fun—perhaps a stroll in the park or a backyard BBQ?
As we push into the weekend, it looks like those cooler mornings will stick around for a bit. Highs are set to be in the low to mid-90s both Saturday and Sunday. And while you may be tempted to bask in the daytime sun, don’t forget those chilly mornings! Layering is key; what starts off as sweater weather can switch to short sleeves by midday.
Looking ahead to Monday and Tuesday, expect lows to hover in the foggy upper 60s, while afternoon highs still chase the 90-degree mark. By the middle of next week, models are showing a high-pressure system rolling in, which could mean mostly dry conditions and persistence in those above-average temperatures as we close out September. Something to keep an eye on if you’re a fan of warmer weather!
So, whether you’re a morning person who enjoys the cool, crisp air or someone who loves the warmth of the sun later on, this week’s weather offers a little something for everyone.
Remember to dress in layers as those temperatures fluctuate throughout the day, and take advantage of the manageable conditions to enjoy some time outside. Cheers to some beautiful fall-like days in South Texas!
