San Antonio is buzzing with excitement as the 43rd Annual Dieciséis de Septiembre Parade approaches! This much-loved event celebrates Mexico’s historic independence from Spanish rule and promises to be an unforgettable experience for locals and visitors alike. The Avenida Guadalupe Association (AGA) is gearing up to host this event in the vibrant Avenida Guadalupe neighborhood.
The parade kicks off on September 16, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM, but don’t worry; you can arrive earlier to secure a good spot! The parade will begin at the corner of Brazos Street and Guadalupe Street and will make its way west through San Antonio’s historic Mexican American district. If you want to experience the rich culture and lively atmosphere, grab your fold-out chairs and sun umbrellas for a perfect day of celebration.
This year, the festivities will honor Aaron Pena, who has been named the Parade Grand Marshal. It’s exciting to have someone so influential leading the way through the parade! So, whether you’re attending with your family or friends, be sure to cheer as he makes his grand entrance.
As we all know, summers in San Antonio can be quite warm. With that in mind, the AGA has thoughtfully scheduled the festivities earlier in the day. While enjoying the parade, don’t forget to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade. It’s the perfect opportunity to indulge in festive food, drink, and entertainment while soaking up the sun.
This wonderful event is made possible by the generous support of local partners, including H.E.B., the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture, Telemundo, and the Consul General de Mexico in San Antonio. All these contributions ensure that this parade remains a joyful occasion for everyone in our community.
If you’re interested in joining the fun, or if you have any questions about the parade, you can reach out to Jonathan Ortiz, the Parade Coordinator. He can be contacted at (210) 223-3151. Make sure to ask about any volunteer opportunities, as this could be a great way to get involved and help showcase the rich culture that defines San Antonio.
For further details and updates about the event, including how to take part in future events organized by the Avenida Guadalupe Association, you can visit their official website at www.avenida.org. This organization works tirelessly to promote and celebrate the heritage of the community, so your participation can make a difference!
Mark your calendars for September 16, 2024, and gather your friends and family for a fantastic day of colorful floats, delicious food, and a festive atmosphere at San Antonio’s Dieciséis de Septiembre Parade. Let’s come together and celebrate our rich cultural heritage while enjoying a day full of joy and community spirit. It’s bound to be a memorable occasion, celebrating history and forging community bonds.
