Drive Sober, No Regrets: TxDOT Hosts ‘DWI Not so Funhouse’

San Antonio, TX – In a concerted effort to reduce drunk driving and its deadly repercussions, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) hosted an informative and interactive event titled “Drive Sober, No Regrets” this past Sunday. The event placed a strong emphasis on the severe and life-altering risks of intoxicated driving and aimed at arming attendees with an in-depth understanding of these perils.

Interactive Exhibit for a Sober Drive

The event was held from noon to 6 p.m. at the bustling La Cantera Mall in San Antonio. Bringing a fresh and interactive approach towards this dire issue, the exhibit featured a number of testimonies, interactive games, and a drunk driving simulator to realistically depict the dangers of driving under the influence.

Highlights of the Event

A major highlight of the event was a traveling carnival trailer that was set up within the premises. Guests of the event were invited to watch emotional and heartrending testimonies from survivors of drunk driving crashes, further emphasizing the treacherous consequences of such irresponsible actions.

Moreover, attendees had the opportunity to experience first hand the potentially damaging effects of intoxicated driving through a realistic driving simulator. This highly interactive and immersive activity proved to be effective enough to induce introspection among the attendees about their driving habits.

In addition to the driving simulator, participants indulged in fun activities like basketball and cornhole, but with a twist. They were made to wear goggles that were designed to simulate an impaired condition, such as driving under influence. These activities drove home the point about the risks and difficulties an impaired driver would face even during basic tasks.

Preventing Drunk Driving Ahead of Fourth of July Celebrations

This initiative is particularly timely in light of the Fourth of July festivities looming just around the corner that often result in a surge of drunk driving cases. TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist Norma Cardona Price stated, “People who are gathering for Fourth of July festivities, we want you to have an option to make a plan for Uber, Lyft or a designated driver, before you start drinking. We don’t want people drinking and driving.”

This campaign by TxDOT serves as a potent reminder to all San Antonians to be responsible drivers and ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road. The battleground against drunk driving continues, and events like these play an essential role in cultivating the mantra of Drive Sober, No Regrets.
