An unfortunate incident took place in the far Southwest Side of San Antonio early Wednesday morning. An electrical fire outbreak displaced three residents from their home. The fire started around 10 a.m. in a house located in the 7400 block of Old Pearsall Road, located near Covel Road and Loop 410 in close proximity to JBSA-Lackland.
According to the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD), upon arrival at the scene, firefighters were met with highly visible flames emanating from the home. Despite their swift response, they encountered difficulties in extinguishing the fire as a consequence of limited water supply. The necessity to shuttle water from a hydrant situated half a mile away presented significant challenges for the crew.
The SAFD has stated that the fire had an electrical origin. The blaze began at the rear of the house, gradually developing momentum and spreading towards the attic. The exact cause for the eruption of the fire is yet to be determined; an investigation by a specialist fire investigation team is currently underway.
Miraculously, all the residents present inside the residence during the time of the incident managed to evacuate safely. Following the mishap, the three displaced residents will be lodging with their family for the intermediate period until alternative accommodation arrangements are solidified.
The full extent of damage incurred by the house remains to be assessed. As of now, a formal damage estimate for the property has not been provided by the SAFD. On fighting the fire, as many as 20 units from the department showed up in response to the call. Safety of the residents in other parts of the neighborhood was also ensured.
The swift response from the San Antonio Fire Department averted what could have turned into a catastrophic situation. Their prompt and professional actions enabled them to control the fire from spreading into a larger area and causing further damage to neighboring properties.
This incident has once again underscored the importance of fire safety and prevention measures. Residents are urged to regularly check their electrical systems and avoid overloading outlets to prevent such occurrences in the future.
