Eastbound and Westbound Lanes of Evans Road to Close Temporarily for I-35 Expansion

San Antonio, TX – Major Roadway Closure Announced for I-35 Expansion Projects

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced a full closure for the eastbound and westbound lanes of Evans Road, located between the I-35 Frontage Roads, beginning on April 12. This temporary closure, including the intersection turnaround, is part of the ongoing I-35 Northeast Expansion Central Project.

Closure Details and Detour Information

Starting from 9 p.m. on April 12, the section of Evans Road and its turnaround at the I-35 intersection will be fully closed for necessary drainage improvements. The closure is expected to last throughout the weekend, with the road anticipated to reopen on the morning of April 15th at 5 a.m.

During this period, traffic heading southbound on I-35 will be redirected to the turnaround at the Corporate Drive intersection, while traffic aiming for northbound I-35 will detour to the turnaround at Olympia Parkway.

Project Background and Future Updates

This closure forms part of the wider I-35 NEX project, which will see the addition of elevated lanes to the I-35 highway. This initiative encompasses numerous closures along I-35, scheduled weekly, to allow for smooth construction of the elevated lanes.

Given the expected impact of these changes on regular traffic routines, TxDOT is releasing a weekly newsletter to keep drivers informed throughout the project’s duration. The newsletter includes listings of upcoming closure plans and detour options. Interested users can register for the newsletter here.

Community Support and Safety

Public support and cooperation during this time are invaluable. Motorists are urged to plan their trips carefully, consider alternative routes if possible, and observe all posted detour signs. As always, safety remains a top priority, and drivers are reminded to stay vigilant and observe speed limits and other traffic management measures in place during the closure period.
