Excitement Builds in San Antonio for the 2024 Tejano Music Awards

San Antonio, get ready to laugh and celebrate! The 2024 Tejano Music Awards are just around the corner and it promises to be an unforgettable evening! This cherished event, which celebrates the best and brightest in Tejano music, will take place at the Boeing Center at Tech Port on November 22 at 7 p.m.. And guess what? It’s all set to be hosted by two of our city’s beloved comedians, John Perez and Chona E! Talk about a fabulous duo!

Meet the Hosts!

Chona E brings a dynamic mix of energy and humor that lights up any stage she steps on. She’s not just any performer; she’s a graduate of the prestigious American Music and Dramatic Academy in both New York and Los Angeles. After taking some time to embrace life as a wife and mom, she made a grand return to the spotlight in 2018 with a hilarious musical parody that took social media by storm! Known as the “Señora Era” queen, Chona E is all about embracing womanhood, motherhood, and having a blast while doing it! Her comedy reflects real-life moments and Latina culture, guaranteeing a show that’ll resonate with everyone in attendance.

And then we have John Perez, or “Big John” as his fans call him. This hilarious guy, born on the bustling West Side of San Antonio, has made quite a name for himself in the local comedy circuit since launching his YouTube career in 2015. After a brief stint in radio, he reignited his passion for comedy after seeing a show that reminded him of his high school days as the ultimate class clown. Fast forward to today, and he’s becoming a sensation with sold-out solo shows and victories in three open mic competitions. He is ready to sprinkle a little bit of South Texas humor on the show!

A Night of Music and Culture

Now, for those who may be wondering, the Tejano Music Awards have been a significant part of the fabric of San Antonio’s cultural scene since 1980. Organized by the Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA), this annual event not only recognizes the best artists in Tejano music but also serves as a platform to promote the genre that beautifully blends Mexican, Spanish, and American influences.

What started as an intimate gathering of just 1,300 fans back in the day has now blossomed into a massive celebration that attracts over 90,000 attendees each year! It’s amazing how far the awards have come, and that’s largely thanks to the dedication of TTMA to keep the spirit of Tejano music thriving. It transcends not only cultural boundaries but reaches audiences across the U.S. and beyond!

The Highlights of 2024 Event

This year’s awards are going to be extra special! With John and Chona E at the helm, expect a delightful mix of comedy and Tejano music that highlights the richness of our culture. “I’m so excited to share the stage with my South Side family; they have both worked hard to get to this point in their careers,” expresses April Monterrosa, publisher of a local magazine.

So whether you’re a die-hard Tejano music lover or just in the mood for a night filled with laughs and cultural flair, make sure to mark your calendar for the 2024 Tejano Music Awards at Tech Port on November 22. You won’t want to miss this vibrant celebration featuring phenomenal performances and the unforgettable comedic stylings of our very own Perez and Chona E. Get ready for a night you won’t forget!
