Exciting Changes Coming for Loop 1604 Drivers in San Antonio!

Hey there, fellow San Antonians! We’ve got some good news on the horizon for drivers navigating the bustling Loop 1604. If you’ve been stuck in traffic recently, relief is almost here. Construction crews are currently putting the finishing touches on a brand new bridge over the Blanco Road intersection, and it’s set to open on Monday morning, November 5, at 5 a.m. Just a few more days of patience, and we’ll all be zipping along the roads again!

What’s Happening this Weekend?

Now, we do need to give you a heads up. Starting today, and lasting until that big opening on Monday, Blanco Road will be closed at Loop 1604. This closure affects both the northbound and southbound lanes of traffic at the interchange, as well as the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road at Blanco Road. So, if you’re planning to drive in that area over the weekend, you might want to have a backup plan!

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has laid out some detours to help you navigate around the construction area smoothly. If you’re looking to access Blanco Road from the interchange, the recommended route is to turn right onto Huebner Road heading south. From there, you would take a left onto Bitters Road to get back to Blanco Road, then follow the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road detour. Easy enough, right?

Options for Eastbound Loop 1604 Drivers

For those drivers cruising along the eastbound lanes of Loop 1604, TxDOT has you covered too! You’ll want to take the turnaround at Blanco Road and continue on the westbound lanes of the Loop 1604 frontage road. Then, you can utilize the turnaround at Bitters Road, which leads back onto the Loop 1604 eastbound mainlanes via the Bitters Road entrance ramp.

Don’t worry, TxDOT assures that you can still get to your favorite neighborhoods and businesses during this construction period. While the detours might feel a little inconvenient this weekend, just think of it as a minor bump in the road leading to a smoother future commute!

What’s Next for Loop 1604?

Once the sun rises on Monday and the new bridge opens, drivers will be shifting over to the freshly constructed bridge, located just to the west of the existing Blanco Road bridge. This is just one of the many improvements being made as part of TxDOT’s ambitious $1.4 billion expansion and overhaul of a critical 23-mile segment of Loop 1604. It’s a significant step that promises to alleviate traffic woes in the long run!

In the meantime, to all our fellow commuters: thank you for your understanding and cooperation as the construction crews work hard to enhance our roads. Before you know it, that *frustrating* traffic will just be a distant memory!
