Northwest San Antonio is buzzing with excitement as plans are underway for a fresh new condominium development called The Gabriel. This project, a collaboration between Austin-based Metropolitan Development Co. and San Antonio-based Agave Land & Development, aims to bring a total of 146 much-needed condos to the area. You’ll find these homes nestled on an 8-acre plot located at 10225 Braun Road, just outside the charming city of Helotes.
The Gabriel will offer a range of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, with sizes stretching from 460 square feet to a spacious 1,500 square feet. Each home is designed with high-end features, including 10- and 11-foot ceilings and sleek Bosch appliances. Prices are expected to start in the low $200,000s, making them an appealing option for many families and professionals. Monthly homeowners association fees will range from about $200 to $600, providing residents with access to some fantastic amenities.
It turns out, the northwest and far west areas of San Antonio are experiencing a real estate boom. Families continue to flock here due to the area’s excellent schools, shopping options, and plentiful outdoor spaces. However, not just single-family homes and apartments are in demand; there has been an observed need for condos, too!
Paul “Pawel” Hardej, a principal at Metropolitan Development, noted, “I think this is kind of a void that we’re going to fill.” Many condo buyers prefer to skip the maintenance that comes with larger houses while still wanting a quality living space complete with all the conveniences of home.
The Gabriel aims to enrich its residents’ lifestyles by incorporating a whopping 4 acres dedicated entirely to outdoor amenities. Imagine shaded hiking and biking trails, a calming saltwater pool, vibrant pickleball courts, and a spacious lawn for lawn games. There’s even a cozy fire pit for gatherings, a dog playground for your furry friend, and designated areas for bird-watching and gardening enthusiasts!
The interior boasts equally enticing offerings, with plans for a fitness center, a library for quiet reading time, and a co-working space perfect for remote workers. Plus, residents can enjoy a delightful café right within their community, a dog wash station to pamper pets, and various storage facilities.
The development is anticipated to attract a wide range of residents, from young professionals working in North San Antonio to empty nesters looking to downsize. James Nichols, managing partner at Agave Land, is particularly excited about the project. Living just 4 miles away, he and his wife plan to purchase a condo at The Gabriel, entirely captivated by the lifestyle it promises. “I want to have the lifestyle that comes with living in a facility where I can walk out my front door and work out at the gym,” Nichols shared enthusiastically.
Interestingly, the path to getting The Gabriel off the ground took some time. Nichols drove past the site for years, contemplating its future, until he decided to contact the owner in 2018. Initially, he thought about building single-family homes, but community feedback guided him to develop condos instead. “We wanted to preserve some of the green space, and most of the neighbors signed off,” he explained, revealing the collaborative spirit behind the project.
With construction slated to kick off in mid-2025 and a timeline of around 22 months for completion, residents can look forward to the first condos being ready approximately 18 months after construction begins. “This is just one of hopefully many condominium projects that we can do in San Antonio,” Hardej mentioned with optimism.
As the community eagerly awaits the arrival of The Gabriel, it stands as a testament to the dynamic growth and evolving needs of northwest San Antonio. There’s no doubt that this new development will add another layer of charm and convenience to the area!
