San Antonio is buzzing with news that the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk, a beloved hotel landmark in the heart of the city, is set for yet another transformation! Just two years after completing a spectacular $38 million renovation that gave the hotel’s 602 guest rooms and 28 suites a fresh and modern look, the Grand Hyatt is diving into a new project to enhance its lobby and downstairs amenities.
According to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, a remarkable $3.2 million renovation will kick off in December. This exciting upgrade aims to revamp the hotel’s first-floor reception area along with several amenities. Guests can expect to see improvements at Perks Market, Bar Rojo, and the popular bar patio, as well as upgrades to the public restrooms on the lower level.
The enhancements seem to align neatly with the hotel’s ongoing commitment to providing a top-notch experience for all visitors. Hyatt officials are quite enthusiastic about the changes, and they can’t wait for guests to appreciate the hotel’s vibrant ambiance and stunning views of downtown San Antonio.
The Hyatt Regency Riverwalk has certainly been busy over the past couple of years. In June 2022, the extensive renovation of more than 600 guest rooms was completed, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that frame breathtaking views of the urban landscape. The revamped rooms also embraced an open floor plan with a sophisticated aesthetic that is hard to resist.
Last year, even the famous Ruth’s Chris Steak House, located within the Hyatt, underwent a major transformation. With an investment of $1 million, the steakhouse introduced a new layout, upgraded seating options, and technology enhancements tailored for their private dining areas. These changes were all about elevating the overall dining experience for guests.
In an exciting turning point, back in April, it was made official that Sunstone Hotel Investors plans to acquire the riverfront property for a whopping $230 million. This addition to the local hospitality scene has a lot of people talking, and it’s easy to see why! Sunstone Hotel Investors’ CEO, Bryan Giglia, expressed his enthusiasm for the location, stating, “This is the best-located hotel in the city, situated in the heart of the Riverwalk, at the front door of the Alamo, and steps away from the convention center.”
Even with recent renovations and modern amenities, Giglia believes there is room for further earnings growth. He noted the hotel is in great shape with minimal near-term capital needs, offering exciting prospects for ongoing improvement and innovation.
As it stands, we’re all left wondering whether the latest renovations will require the hotel to pause operations for a while. Currently, there hasn’t been a clear statement indicating if guests should expect disruptions during this impressive remodel. We’ve made efforts to reach out to both the Grand Hyatt and Hyatt corporate offices for additional details, but it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for their response.
With these upcoming enhancements, the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk is all set to continue being one of San Antonio’s standout destinations for both visitors and locals alike. Whether you’re there for a weekend getaway, a special event, or merely stopping in for a drink at the bar, these improvements promise to enhance the experience in one of the city’s most iconic locations.
Stay tuned, San Antonio! Major changes are on the horizon, and we can’t wait to see how they unfold!
