History

In 1691, Spanish explorers came to the location, which was then a Payaya Indian camp. San Antonio was founded on May 1, 1718, when the Mission San Antonio de Valero was constructed by a Spanish expedition from Mexico.

HEALTHCARE

Methodist Hospital was the first hospital established in the South Texas Medical Center, opening in 1955. The Five Oaks, a group of businessmen, donated 40 acres for the creation of a world-class medical facility.
