Will Fall Cold Front Reach South Texas? Here’s What Models Say.

South Texas has endured a hot spell over the past few weeks, with temperatures hitting 95 degrees or higher for ten consecutive days. However, a glimmer of hope emerges as the forecast models show the movement of a forthcoming cold front.

Weekend Weather Forecast for San Antonio

The start of the weekend will see temperatures hover around the mid-90s. Despite the occasional showers, the overall weather will remain hot, with Saturday’s temperature speculated to peak around 95 degrees by mid-afternoon.

On Sunday, a slight reprieve from the humidity is expected, but high temperatures will remain consistent in the mid-90s. Heat index values will likely touch 98-100 degrees, pressing the need for plenty of water and cool off periods for outdoor activities.

The Anticipated Cold Front

The first day of fall on Sunday will be greeted with cooler temperatures reminiscent of the season’s onset. Areas in the Texas Panhandle are predicted to experience a chill, with temperatures plunging to the 50s and further down to 40s and upper 30s by Monday morning.

Unfortunately, South Texas’s relief may not be as dramatic. Early models suggest the cold front stalling around Central Texas on Monday. Consequently, although San Antonio will experience a slight cooling, temperatures will remain near or a bit above average for late September. By midweek, the forecast expects a further southward progression of the cold front, potentially leading to a slight dip in temperature.

Development in the Gulf of Mexico

Meanwhile, models depict a potential tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico over the coming week. The National Hurricane Center predicts a 50% chance of at least a tropical depression forming in the area. Warm Gulf waters can potentially fuel the storm’s intensity. Thus, coastal areas, including Texas, need to be vigilant about the storm’s progress.
