San Antonio Country Band, Fancy and the Fortunate Sons, Announces Debut Album

SAN ANTONIO – Fancy and the Fortunate Sons, the renowned San Antonio-based country and western band, is set to mark a significant milestone in their musical journey. Their anticipated debut album, Bad Habits & a Broken Heart, is set to be released on Friday, September 6. A product of hard times, the album features songs based on the real-life hard-luck stories of the band’s frontwoman and songwriter, Reanna Galicia, who goes by Fancy.

The Hard-Struggle Story Telling

“The entire album is anchored on struggles in life. The focus ranges from my past substance abuse, life challenges, to the pressures of taking care of my kids while pursuing a music career,” revealed Galicia, a single working mom. A remarkable track that narrativizes this struggle is Pusher, imitating the stressful life on the wrong side of the law through its driving rhythm.

The Formation

Beginning her career participating in local open mic nights, Galicia was able to attract a considerable following with her strong vocals and heart-melting original songs. A growing fanbase gave her the opportunity to bring together a backing band, and together they adopted the name Fancy and the Fortunate Sons.

An Homage to Country Music Legends

With a voice that calls to mind Reba McIntyre, Galicia’s self-given namesake is a nod to McIntyre’s famous rendition of Bobbie Gentry’s song “Fancy”. The new album features the western swing track Clankity Clank where Galicia’s dexterous yodels remind one of the legendary Patsy Cline.

A Taste of San Antonio’s History

The album, recorded at NGL Records located in El Mero Weso (San Antonio’s West Side), and just across the street from the historic Patio Andaluz. The album release party is scheduled for Friday, September 6. The outdoor venue that will host the party is right next to the studio where the album was created. The release party will also feature smashing burgers from Burger Foos and sets by DJ Cami and others.

With the symbolic setting, the event aims to build a bridge between two of San Antonio’s strongest identities, Chicano and country. It is a great opportunity for music enthusiasts to witness the evolution of the San Antonio sound channelled through Fancy and the Fortunate Sons. “Although we think of Sunny [Ozuna] first when we think about West Side Sound, I am more inclined towards Doug Sahm,” Galicia further added, “I am trying to keep the spirit of San Antonio alive through my unique sound.”

In conclusion, the debut album by Fancy and the Fortunate Sons is an absolute must for both fans and followers of the band, as well as for all genuine country music enthusiasts and lovers of original songwriting.
