Bringing the Mardi Gras Spirit to San Antonio

In the heart of San Antonio, something as colorful and vibrant as a Mardi Gras celebration is brewing. Dubbed “Fiesta on French”, this event is setting the stage for a vivacious fusion of Texas charm and New Orleans flair during the festive fiesta season.

A Memorable Evening for a Noble Cause

This spirited Mardi Gras-inspired event is not just about the fun; it has a noble cause behind it. The proceeds from the event are dedicated to providing support to local non-profits working assiduously for children with disabilities. Hundreds of participants this evening donned festive costumes, enjoyed delectable Cajun cuisine, and swayed to the rhythm of live New Orleans-style jazz music, all in support of this worthy cause.

Abe Juarez, a representative from Fiesta on French, expressed the event’s dual purpose. “It’s something that we started for two reasons. One is to give back to our community and make a difference. And two, keep our social network going,” he said. He further added, “Our family is involved, our boys are involved, their friends, they all volunteer. It’s just a great event. When you’re here, it’s so busy there are things you’ll miss, but everybody’s with a smile on their face, just having a good time.”

Infusing the Fiesta with French Quarter Flavor

The event wasn’t short on Mardi Gras characteristic enjoyments. Along with the soulful jazz and sumptuous food, attendees also delved into other fun aspects like a roulette table and a tarot card reading. Adding a touch of San Antonio’s vibrant LGBTQ+ scene, a spectacular drag queen show showcased some of the city’s best talents.

Aiming for Official Recognition

The ‘Fiesta on French’ has come a long way since its inception. The 2024 edition marks its third year, and the Fiesta Commission is anticipated to evaluate the event this year. Optimism is high that this unique celebration will earn its place as an official Fiesta event by next year.

By all accounts, ‘Fiesta on French’ is not just about bringing the essence of Mardi Gras to San Antonio; it’s about creating a wave of positive change through a community-powered celebration. This gathering marks a beautiful fusion of music, food, fun, and philanthropy. It is a vivid reminder of how jubilant festivities can blend seamlessly with charitable causes, creating a vibrant tapestry of community celebration that is both enjoyable and meaningful.
