San Antonio – The local driving range was abuzz with excitement as kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio got a taste of sports and finance in one action-packed day.

A Day of Golf and Finance Lessons

Local youngsters got a double hit on fun and learning as they were introduced to golf with accompanying finance lessons. Leading organizations such as First Tee San Antonio, Frost Bank, HEB Tournament of Champions, and The Nancy Smith Hurd Foundation joined forces to create this unique experience.

While the golf games gave the kids an introduction to fair play, discipline, and the importance of physical fitness, the finance lessons taught them the basics of managing money. Wrapped in a Frost Bank Literacy Class, kids learned the value of saving, budgeting, and making informed financial decisions.

Bringing Literacy to the Fore

Carrie Kimbell and Gabby Rangel from First Tee San Antonio, along with Bill Day from Frost Bank, led the sessions. By organizing the event, these local heroes aim to offer early exposure to financial education, an often neglected yet vital part of preparing youngsters for the future and enabling them to make wise financial decisions in adulthood.

Activities like this not only enrich the lives of children but also broaden their outlook beyond standard curricula, fostering an environment of learning by doing.

Feedback from the Day:

The turnout and enthusiastic participation of the kids made it clear that the event was a smashing success. They learned, had fun, and are now better equipped to handle the challenges that lie ahead, making ‘fore’ – a term resonating through the sunny day at the golf course – a symbol of their forward-looking, prepared future.

Looking Ahead

First Tee San Antonio, Frost Bank, HEB Tournament of Champions, and The Nancy Smith Hurd Foundation are looking forward to more extensive collaborations in the future, hoping to extend these lessons to a larger number of kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio.

By combining sports and entertainment with finance lessons, they hope to inspire a generation of San Antonio’s youngsters to take control of their future and make educated decisions about money matters. This refreshing initiative takes a praiseworthy step in making financial literacy a standard part of early education in San Antonio, setting a commendable example for other communities to emulate.
