San Antonio gas prices on the rise as summer approaches.
San Antonio drivers are feeling the pinch as average gasoline prices have jumped by 22.2 cents per gallon in just a week, reaching $2.74 per gallon. While prices are up by 3.6 cents from last month, they are down 33.4 cents compared to last year. The price range varies significantly across the city, with the lowest at $2.35 and the highest at $2.99 per gallon. Factors contributing to this increase include seasonal trends as summer approaches, impacting gasoline supply and demand.
Hey, San Antonio! If you’ve filled up your tank lately, you might have noticed your wallet feeling a little lighter. That’s right, average gasoline prices have surged by 22.2 cents per gallon in just a week, bringing us to an average of $2.74 per gallon. It seems like we’re all feeling the pinch as these numbers keep climbing!
To add to our woes, the current price is also 3.6 cents higher than a month ago. On the bright side, we can take some comfort that it’s down 33.4 cents from this time last year. So, while we’re seeing prices going up, they at least aren’t at the levels we faced last summer.
If you’re hunting for the best deals, you might want to check around! The lowest gas price on Sunday was a relatively reasonable $2.35 per gallon. However, be prepared for a shocker—the most expensive gas in town hit $2.99 per gallon! That means there’s a hefty 64-cent difference within our own city. If only it were easy to predict where the best prices would pop up!
Looking statewide, the situation varies—drivers in Texas are paying an average of $2.76 per gallon. Curious about other cities? If you happen to be in El Paso, you’re looking at an average of $2.92 per gallon, while those in Tyler are getting a little lucky with prices down to $2.64 per gallon. Nationwide, the average price of gasoline has jumped by 6.3 cents in the last week, reaching about $3.08. While that seems steep, it’s still 1.6 cents lower than a month ago, and—get this—42.5 cents lower than last year!
So, what’s causing this spike in gas prices? Interestingly, it looks like the increase in San Antonio can be mostly chalked up to seasonal trends rather than any political issues or shipping tariffs. As summer approaches, refineries are switching to summer-blend gasoline, and this change often leads to higher prices. Gasoline demand has seen a dip recently, dropping from 9.18 million barrels per day to 8.81 million barrels per day. On the flip side, gasoline production has ramped up to an average of 9.6 million barrels per day—a positive sign!
Looking at the nation’s gas supply, it’s also worth noting that the total domestic gasoline supply went from 241.1 million barrels to 240.6 million barrels. This slight decrease hasn’t derailed prices completely, but it does reflect fluctuating availability in the market. If you’re curious about the highest and lowest gas prices in the U.S., brace yourself: the cheapest gasoline was found at $2.29 per gallon in parts of Texas, while some lucky folks in other areas have to pay as much as $4.07 per gallon!
For a little perspective, remember last year’s highs? San Antonio faced a staggering price of $4.68 per gallon on June 13, 2022. Historical data shows that seasonal increases in gas prices are generally the norm and not a temporary blip on the radar. As we prepare for summer, we may need to brace ourselves for further price hikes.
While the future of gas prices remains uncertain amidst ongoing discussions about trade policies, what we do know is that gas prices can only be counted on to be unpredictable. So, fill up your tanks where it’s cheap while you can and keep an eye out for those deals!
