Sponsor Our ArticlesSan Antonio has been rocked by a surge in gun violence, highlighted by multiple shooting incidents over the past weekend. Notable events include a chaotic shootout on Interstate 35, an armed robbery leading to a shootout, a tragic death related to a botched robbery in Selma, and a young boy critically injured in an accidental shooting. As the community grapples with this unsettling reality, authorities continue to investigate and urge anyone with information to come forward.
San Antonio has found itself at the center of a troubling surge in gun violence, as several unsettling shooting incidents unfolded last Sunday, leaving the community shaken. With reports of casualties and injuries, residents are beginning to wonder what is happening in their beloved city.
In an alarming daytime incident just before noon on Sunday, surveillance cameras captured a violent scene on Interstate 35 near Splashtown Drive. Two sedans were seen driving side by side when chaos erupted with gunshots ringing out. What happened next was nothing short of chaotic, as one of the cars lost control and crashed through a chain-link fence, coming to rest at the back lot of the National Trench Safety facility.
Branch Manager Kevin Chaloupka reported seeing the driver emerge from the wreckage, seemingly injured but managing to hop away from the scene. Thankfully, it appears that no other vehicles or pedestrians were caught in the crossfire. However, four suspects dressed in black were seen sprinting from the scene, and as of now, they remain at large. Investigators noted an object left in the grass by one of the suspects, but further search efforts yielded no significant findings.
Soon after the Interstate shooting, reports of another violent incident emerged. At approximately 2:19 a.m., a security guard was wrapping up his shift in the 4400 block of Rittiman Road when things took a dangerous turn. Caught off guard, the guard found himself facing two armed suspects who attempted to rob him at gunpoint.
As the situation escalated, the guard responded with force, resulting in a shootout. One suspect was shot and rushed to the hospital in serious condition, while the other opportunistically fled the scene. However, he wasn’t able to evade capture for long, as he was later apprehended in connection with the attempted robbery. Authorities are currently digging deeper into the circumstances surrounding this incident as the investigation continues.
Tragedy struck in the nearby town of Selma when a 20-year-old man was found dead following a botched robbery attempt that involved over 30 gunshots. The man, identified as Hayden Lee Holt, initially attracted attention from authorities as a suspect trying to procure a firearm. Sadly, his attempt escalated into a robbery that drew gunfire and left two others wounded, leading to their hospitalization—but thankfully, their injuries are non-life-threatening.
Investigators revealed that Holt, along with others from San Antonio, aimed to steal a firearm but were met with deadly consequences. Multiple warrants for capital murder have been issued, and several individuals have already been detained as the investigation unveils more details about this tragic event.
The violence doesn’t stop there, as another shooting incident left a 15-year-old boy fighting for his life. The tragedy unfolded just after 1 p.m. on the West Side in the 1200 block of West Cesar Chavez Boulevard, with early investigations hinting at an accidental shooting.
Two other boys have been taken in for questioning regarding the incident, but as of now, no formal arrests have been made. The community is holding its breath for this young boy’s recovery as concerns about safety continue to mount.
Lastly, in a separate alarming event, a drive-by shooting injured a 47-year-old woman in her own garage late Friday night near Culebra Road. The woman was caught in the crossfire of two vehicles exchanging gunfire just before 11:30 p.m. Fortunately, she is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
These series of incidents paints a concerning picture of rising violence in San Antonio, prompting local authorities to urge anyone with information about any of the suspects involved to reach out via their non-emergency number. As the community grapples with this unsettling reality, the hope for safety and resolution remains strong.
