Hey there, San Antonio music lovers! Hold onto your hats (and maybe even your clothes) because GWAR is descending upon the Vibes Event Center this Saturday, Nov. 16. If you’ve never experienced GWAR before, prepare yourself for an unforgettable night filled with outrageous stage antics, wild costumes, and a whole lot of mess!
This year marks a significant milestone for GWAR as they celebrate 40 years of bringing their unique blend of metallic shock rock to fans across the globe. Joining them on this wild ride are the amazing Dark Funeral and Squid Pisser as opening acts. It’s shaping up to be one epic night!
In anticipation of the concert, we caught up with Blothar the Berserker, GWAR’s iconic frontman. He shared his thoughts on everything from the craziness of Earth politics to fond memories of their early shows. But don’t get too excited about seeing Blothar at full capacity! He’s currently nursing an injury, meaning we won’t see his infamous costume featuring a sideways vagina surrounded by blood-spewing props. But don’t worry, there’ll still be plenty of blood to go around during the show!
As Blothar put it, “Even 40 years on, the world is still not ready for GWAR.” It’s clear that the band has always pushed the envelope, marrying heavy metal with theatrics and humor. They’ve redefined what it means to put on a rock show! He expresses that with the current media landscape, the shocking displays they’ve become famous for aren’t quite as shocking anymore, leading to a unique challenge in keeping their stage shows fresh and compelling.
Blothar reflected fondly on GWAR’s history in San Antonio, recalling one of their craziest shows at the now-defunct Taco Land. It was a smaller venue, but packed with energy and unforgettable moments. “Taco Land was one of the greatest gigs in GWAR history. We had the audience in the palm of our hands,” he reminisced. He detailed how their outrageous performances grew their audience, often compelling folks to spread the word and get more people to join in on the chaos!
Besides reminiscing about the past, Blothar opened up about the transition after the passing of legendary frontman David Brockie, saying it wasn’t as hard as many might think because of the strong bond shared within the band. GWAR not only kept going but also welcomed new talents like Tommy Meehan, bringing fresh energy and spirits to the group.
So what can you really expect from this Saturday’s spectacle at the Vibes Event Center? Blothar hints it’s going to be a classic GWAR show—a chaotic mix of music theater, humor, and, of course, the infamous blood sprays. If you’ve ever wanted a taste of true rock rebellion, this is your chance!
Tickets are priced at $34-$36 and the concert kicks off at 8 p.m.. If you’re in the mood for an electrifying evening filled with outrageous humor and shock rock, grab your friends and get ready to witness the madness that is GWAR!
Don’t miss out; this concert promises to be one wild night full of laughter, music, and maybe a little blood. San Antonio, are you ready to rock?
