San Antonio is gearing up for an unforgettable night as Hawthorne Heights prepares to take the stage at Paper Tiger on Tuesday, August 27. This event marks a special celebration of the band’s groundbreaking 2004 album, The Silence in Black and White, as they perform it in its entirety for fans old and new. The tour, aptly named the 20 Years of Tears Tour, is a nostalgic journey highlighting the band’s influence on the emo music scene.
The Dayton, Ohio-based band emerged in the early 2000s, capturing the hearts of listeners with their unique fusion of catchy pop-emo melodies and heavy metalcore vibes. Despite initial mixed reviews, The Silence in Black and White eventually resonated deeply with a generation, featuring hits like “Ohio Is for Lovers,” a song that became an anthem for many.
Fans can look forward to an exciting lineup, featuring Thursday, Anberlin, Cartel, and more as support acts. Drummer Poppy expressed the band’s gratitude for their loyal Texas fans, stating, “Texas is possibly the band’s collectively favorite state to play.” With Texas being a hotbed for emo and punk music, San Antonio holds a special place in the hearts of the band members.
Poppy reflected on the band’s history with local audiences, recalling a sold-out show during a tour with Armor for Sleep. “It’s always been a great spot for the band and still is,” he shared, emphasizing the connection they feel with their fans in the region.
As nostalgia for emo music continues to rise, Hawthorne Heights proves that their relevance remains intact. Poppy noted, “The popularity ebbs and flows,” but their commitment to touring has kept them engaged with a loyal fanbase. He humorously remarked, “I feel like we’re in our babysitter era,” mentioning how their original fans, now adults, still support the band enthusiastically.
The band’s commitment to fostering new talent continues as they embrace a new generation of musicians. Poppy described a heartwarming event where they invited a young fan to play guitar on stage, only to reunite years later and discover that the kid had formed his own band—a testament to the band’s lasting impact.
With their 56-date tour filled with festival appearances and exciting shows, Hawthorne Heights shows no signs of slowing down. Poppy concluded that despite the passing years, their approach remains true to what it was in 2004: “I’m touring a lot and playing a lot of drums right now, so for me, 2004 hasn’t quite ended.”
Mark your calendars for an evening of nostalgia and raw emotion with Hawthorne Heights, who will be lighting up the stage at Paper Tiger on Tuesday, August 27. Tickets are available for $50, and showtime is set for 6 p.m. Don’t miss the chance to witness the magic of emo music’s enduring legacy in the heart of San Antonio.
