A 19-year-old male driver has been critically injured following a shooting incident on Highway 281 near downtown on Tuesday morning, San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) said.
The victim reported to the authorities that he was heading southbound on the highway around 8 a.m. when an unidentified individual in another vehicle pulled up alongside him and opened fire at his pickup truck. After the incident, the victim managed to exit the highway at Josephine exit where he promptly alerted the police.
Emergency services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The police report made no mention of any prior road rage incident leading up to the shooting, causing the motive behind this act of violence to remain unclear.
In the wake of the investigations, Highway 281 was temporarily closed at the Josephine exit. This closure led to a significant traffic disruption stretching for miles. But, the highway has since been re-opened to commuters.
The SAPD is actively working to uncover more details surrounding this incident. As part of their investigation, officers are currently seeking any witnesses or any individuals who might have captured the incident on their dashcam or other recording devices.
With the motive behind the incident still unclear and the perpetrator still at large, the police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in their investigation and eventual apprehension of the suspect.
This incident marks yet another tragic event on our highways and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance on the road. The authorities have committed to doing everything in their power to bring the culprit to justice and ensure safety on our roads.
The San Antonio Police Department is dedicated to ensuring the safety of its citizens, with personnel trained to respond effectively in a wide variety of situations.
