Construction work on I-35 highway with detour signage

News Summary

Residents of Live Oak and Universal City should be prepared for significant delays this weekend due to major construction on I-35. From January 10 to January 13, the Texas Department of Transportation will close key ramps and lanes as part of the I-35 NEX project. Drivers will need to navigate detours, especially for access to Loop 1604 and Pat Booker Road. Updates will depend on weather conditions, so travelers are advised to check for changes before hitting the road.

Major Weekend Construction on I-35 to Impact Drivers Near Live Oak and Universal City

Attention, residents of Live Oak and Universal City! If you’re planning to hit the road this weekend, you might want to take a moment to stretch those planning muscles because there’s some major construction happening that’s going to affect your drive. That’s right, folks! From Friday night all the way through to early Monday morning, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is ramping up construction as part of the I-35 NEX project on the Northeast Side.

What’s Happening?

Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, January 10 and running straight through until 5 a.m. on Monday, January 13, drivers can expect some serious detours as the southbound collector ramp to Loop 1604 mainlanes will be closed, along with the southbound exit to Pat Booker Road. But wait, there’s more! Two of the southbound I-35 mainlanes between Retama Parkway and Loop 1604 will be closed as well.

The work being done includes a variety of crucial upgrades, such as drainage improvements, installation of barriers, and striping efforts to make your future drives smoother. Thanks, TxDOT, for keeping the roads in tip-top shape!

Sneaky Detour Information

Now, let’s get to the nitty-gritty: how do you navigate these closures? Fear not, because there are alternatives in place to keep traffic flowing. If you’re headed south on I-35 and need to access westbound Loop 1604, here’s what you can do:

  • Exit at Retama Parkway and make your way onto the southbound I-35 frontage road.
  • Keep cruising on that frontage road until you reach the Forum Parkway intersection.
  • Next, you’ll want to access the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road and hop back onto the main route via the next entrance ramp.

If your destination is eastbound Loop 1604 or Pat Booker Road, here’s a suggested route:

  • Exit at Judson Road and head towards the Judson Road intersection.
  • Take a left towards the northbound I-35 frontage road, then make another left to get onto it.
  • Just follow the signs to Pat Booker Road, connecting through the eastbound Loop 1604 intersection.

Stay Updated!

Of course, keep in mind that all of these closures depend on the weather. So make sure to check for any updates before you hit the road. Road work can be unpredictable at times, and safety always comes first! TxDOT will be working hard to ensure things go smoothly so that you can get where you need to go. Their efforts will mean future drives are safer and more efficient for everyone.

So, there you have it, folks! If you’re traveling this weekend, be sure to plan accordingly. Grab your favorite snacks, crank up that playlist, and follow those detours to avoid any hiccups on your journey. Safe travels, everyone!
