Major Intersection I-35 and Loop 1604 in San Antonio to be Closed July 19-22

SAN ANTONIO – The busy intersection of I-35 and Loop 1604 is set to be closed for several days in July, causing possible traffic disruptions. This closure, scheduled for July 19-22, is part of continuous efforts to install elevated lanes along I-35.

The Closure Details

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced that the closure will be necessary for the installation of steel girders. During this closure period, both the westbound and eastbound collector ramps of Loop 1604 at I-35 will not be accessible to traffic.

Furthermore, the connector ramp from southbound I-35 to eastbound Loop 1604 along with the ramp from northbound I-35 to westbound Loop 1604 will also be closed.

Traffic Diversion and Timing

While these closures are in place, traffic will be detoured around the intersection via the frontage roads. The TxDOT has planned the closure timings to minimize disruptions to peak traffic hours. The closure will begin on July 19 at 9 p.m. and end on July 22 at 5 a.m.

Impact on Commuters

These temporary closures will likely have a considerable impact on travelers and commuters who regularly use these roads. It is recommended that drivers find alternate routes to avoid delays. Furthermore, drivers are urged to use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the construction area.

Development Project

The intersection’s closure is part of a larger project to install elevated lanes along I-35. The installation of these lanes aims to improve connectivity and relieve congestion in one of San Antonio’s most heavily traveled areas.

The Texas Transportation Commission is working in conjunction with local and state partners to make improvements to the highway that will help ensure more reliable travel times and enhance safety for all road users.

Travelers’ Advisory

All travelers are advised to stay updated on the closure and the construction work via TxDOT’s website and social media channels. As always, TxDOT implores all drivers to ‘Stay Alert and Stay Alive’ by paying full attention to road signs and directions from law enforcement officers and other road workers.

Stay tuned for more updates regarding this major intersection closure and its impact on San Antonio’s travel and traffic.
