San Antonio Cleans Up with Free Landfill Day

San Antonio Sets for a Major Clean-Up with Free Landfill Day

Free Landfill Day On The Horizon

San Antonio residents are feeling lighter already as the city gears up for a free landfill day on Saturday, April 13. This event will provide an opportunity for residents to get rid of their bulk waste items, like old furniture and tires, without the usual disposal charges.

Where and When to Dispose?

The city’s residents can take their bulky waste items to three designated landfill locations between 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on this particular day. The sites include:

  1. Republic Services Landfill located at 7000 IH 10 East.
  2. Waste Management Landfill sitting at 8611 Covel Road.

To dispose of any items, residents will be required to bring along a Picture ID and a recent CPS Energy utility bill that demonstrates payment for the city’s environmental fee. Safety consideration is a priority and it is highly recommended that people wear safety vests while disposing of the bulky items. Additionally, all loads must be covered by a tarp.

What Can and Cannot Be Disposed?

Residents are allowed to dispose variety of bulky household items such as old furniture, mattresses, appliances and even car tires (with a limit of six per household). Other items acceptable under this initiative include carpet, fencing material, water heaters, and toilets.

However, certain materials are strictly not accepted at the landfill sites. This include roofing material, sheetrock, dirt, brick, brush, lumber, and any form of construction materials. In addition, any forms of industrial, commercial or construction waste won’t be allowed.

Year-Round Disposal Centers

Beyond this free landfill day, the city of San Antonio is also home to four drop-off centers for bulk items that Solid Waste Management operates. These centers are open from Tuesday to Saturday, throughout the year, offering residents more chances to dispose of their solid waste. For more details regarding landfill disposal and the drop-off centers, please visit the city’s official recycling website at SArecycles.org.

While free landfill days are a treat for residents looking to dispose of their bulky items, it’s also a win for the city’s commitment to cleanliness and recycling efforts. As residents lighten their load this Saturday, San Antonio continues its quest for cleanliness, safety, and environmental sustainability.
