Large Cat Sighting Sparks Alert Among San Antonio Residents

Large Cat Sighted in San Antonio – Residents on Alert!

Residents of San Antonio are being put on high alert after a rather curious and slightly alarming report came in about a large cat sighting. On Monday, October 29, someone in the neighborhood spotted what they described as a big, dark-colored cat with a long tail lurking right behind their home, located along the 10400 block of Foxen Way. This area is situated on the far Northwest Side, near Bandera and Scenic Loop Road. Naturally, this has sparked a flurry of interest and concern among the community.

Who You Gonna Call?

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) took to social media to inform the public of this unusual sighting. After getting the report, deputies rushed to the scene to investigate the claims, conducting a thorough search through the greenbelt behind the resident’s property. However, great news for those who were concerned—the officers didn’t manage to locate the mysterious large cat.

While the species of the creature remains unidentified, the BCSO is urging residents to stay vigilant. Their post read, “We urge residents in the area to remain vigilant and exercise caution near this area. Please be cautious of outdoor pets, consider keeping them inside during this time, and supervise children when playing outdoors.” It’s certainly wise for all of us to pay attention and take these warnings seriously!

Safety First!

Anyone who comes across this elusive creature is advised not to approach it. The BCSO is actively working to capture the animal for the security of everyone living in the area. If you spot any large cat, please do not hesitate to reach out to the BCSO by calling 210-335-6000. Remember, quick action can ensure everyone stays safe!

The Big Cat Speculation

With rumors swirling, folks are speculating about which species the large cat could be. The BCSO didn’t specify, but it’s important to note that the area has seen mountain lions in the past. A notable sighting occurred back in 2013 in the Stone Oak area, near Canyon Ridge Elementary School and Barbara Bush Middle School. Since the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) began tracking sightings in 1982, there have only been three known mountain lion sightings in Bexar County, and the last was a decade ago!

Interestingly, mountain lions seem to be gradually moving closer to San Antonio. Just last year, a resident caught footage of a bobcat casually roaming in their backyard near the La Cantera area. It seems like our natural neighbors are making their presence known now more than ever!

What to Do if You Spot One

As authorities continue their search, Bexar County residents should be mindful of their surroundings. Stay alert while out for a walk and keep pets close. If you have outdoor pets, consider bringing them inside, especially in the evenings when the large cat may be more active.

Whether we’re dealing with a mountain lion, a bobcat, or a far stranger creature, San Antonio folks are no strangers to wildlife. Living in a city that’s so beautifully close to nature means there will inevitably be encounters of this kind. While it’s a little unsettling, let’s keep our spirits high and remind ourselves that staying safe is always the priority!

The BCSO will keep everyone updated as they continue their efforts. Keep those cameras ready – you never know when you might get a peek at our wild neighbors!
