Texans can swell their chest out in pride, as the world’s largest gas station, a mammoth 75,000-square-feet Buc-ee’s, proudly stands on their soil. Officially opened on Monday in Luling, an hour northeast of San Antonio, this landmark arrayed with 120 fuel pumps, has successfully dethroned the previous reigning Buc-ee’s located in New Braunfels.
While Florida media outlets have been buzzing with speculations that an upcoming Buc-ee’s in their territory would displace the one in Luling, Texas company officials quickly debunked these claims last Friday. They assured Texans saying, “regarding square footage, the largest store outside of Texas will not exceed 74,000 square feet.”
The news emerged after Daytona Beach News-Journal suggested that an 80,000-square-feet Buc-ee’s travel center slated to open next year in Ocala, Florida would snatch the title. This presumption by the outlet was based on 2023 Marion County planning documents. However, these reports were swiftly corrected.
“Buc-ee’s is currently in the design and permitting phase for a 74,000-square-foot store in Ocala, Florida, which is our largest store model outside of the State of Texas,” Stan Beard, Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate and Development, clarified to the News-Journal.
It’s not confirmed as to whether Buc-ee’s had previously planned to expand the Ocala location beyond 74,000 square feet, or it is a recent modification in their plans. Regardless, what stands firm is that the title for the world’s largest gas station remains in Texas, at least for the foreseeable future.
Anchored in Lake Jackson, Texas, Buc-ee’s has been on an expansion spree outside its home state, opening substantial units in other states. However, the grandeur of the largest Buc-ee’s will continue to be a unique accolade for Texas. To date, this milestone aligns with the brand’s commitment to offering its customers the ultimate convenience store experience.
Since its inception in 1982, Buc-ee’s has served as a beacon in the convenience and gas station industry, offering an unrivaled breadth of services. The pioneering spirit of creating the largest convenience stores ever seen – clean, friendly and in-stock – has made it a beloved institution for both locals and travelers.
Texans can now continue to bask in the pride of hosting the quintessential Buc-ee’s—a landmark that symbolizes Texas’s grandeur and the brand’s commitment to exceeding customer expectations.
