Empty Lots in Lavaca’s Victoria Commons Neighborhood Transferred to Developers

San Antonio’s Victoria Commons neighborhood is witnessing a significant shift in its housing landscape as the Opportunity Home San Antonio public housing agency recently finalized the sale of vacant lots to two prominent developers. The sale marks a crucial step towards bolstering affordable housing options in the area.

Key Developers Involved

The land transactions involved renowned developers, Wes Peoples Homes from Austin and CVF Homes from San Antonio. Wes Peoples Homes acquired 20 lots in January, allocating eight on the south side of McMonigal Place and twelve on the west side of McMillan Place. The company plans to construct a mix of 42 townhomes and eight three-story “zero-lot-line” homes, emphasizing urban living with spacious front porches and two-car garages.

CVF Homes, led by owner Juan Fernandez, purchased six lots adjacent to Wes Peoples Homes. The specifics of their development plans are yet to be disclosed.

Community Development Initiatives

The ongoing transformation of Victoria Commons aims to revitalize the former site of the Victoria Courts public housing project, launched during the New Deal era. The public housing agency, along with its development partners, is keen on creating vibrant housing options close to downtown San Antonio to address the growing demand for affordable living spaces.

Future Housing Opportunities

The forthcoming residential units are anticipated to cater to various preferences, offering modern amenities and versatile floor plans. The design and pricing details are under finalization, but the focus remains on delivering quality homes that blend seamlessly with the neighborhood’s charm and accessibility.

Continued Development Efforts

While the recent land sales mark a significant progress for Victoria Commons, there are still numerous undeveloped parcels awaiting transformation. The upcoming projects are poised to enhance the neighborhood’s appeal and create a diverse community fabric that prioritizes sustainability and inclusivity.
